What NC is most like an ISOM stick?

I used to ask this same question. (And got many of the same answers!) After going through a lot of CCs (of many kinds) this year, and then trying to go back to NCs, I have found that CCs have a deeper, more defined flavor, and not difficult to pick out. In comparison, an NC's flavor is almost...

    Uh Oh...Beetles in Sabor Cubano

In a nutshell, tobacco beetle eggs are deposited in the tobacco plants as they grow. Spraying with insecticide and flash-freezing at the factory (if it's done) generally takes care of them, but under the right conditions of temperature and (I think) humidity, they can sometimes still hatch. I...

    Uh Oh...Beetles in Sabor Cubano

If it's from a CC, it tastes like arroz con pollo. :dr

    Uh Oh...Beetles in Sabor Cubano

That's why I inspect and freeze everything as soon as I get it.

Has anyone found the new Zaya in the Chicago area?

My old source appears to have cut a lot of their stock (they're dropping Ron Zacapa 15 anos, of all things) and the old slot for Zaya is gone. Has anyone found a source in the greater Chicago area?

    Music to smoke stogies to.......

Deeper than that...I'm talking cuts off the original prog-rock albums. "On The Threshold of a Dream", "Seventh Sojourn", that kind of stuff. Tracks 99% of stations DON'T have in rotation!

    Music to smoke stogies to.......

Sometimes I enjoy Moody Blues' deeper cuts with a good cigar.

God of Fire - Carlito 2005 Churchill

Well I will say this...the one and only time I got to try a GoF (don't remember the age), it had a lingering aftertaste that kept changing. I would honestly say that the GoF is the one and only NC I can recall having that came close to a CC.

    Hurricanes in the Carribean

Has anyone heard news of how hard Cuba was hit? It sounds like Pinar del Rio was especially hard hit. On top of everything else those poor people have to suffer through, now this....

Cigars and what do you listen to?

Sure! That's what I was just doing! One of 'em was brave (or dumb) enough to land on my back door screen...I deigned to share my smoke with it.

Favorite Cigar Smoked at Shack IV?

The 1492s on Thursday and Friday (?) night were beyond words. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in a cigar. And that Cubatabaco Festival cigar and package from 1973 came damn close. The 1999 RyJ Churchill that several of us passed around (thanks to macms) was magnificent. Truly a cigar I did not...

    Cohibas- Real or Fake

There are no pre-embargo Cohibas. The Cohiba line was created in 1966 for VIPs and diplomatic gifts, and they weren't released commercially until about 1982. There are a couple of different NC "Cohibas", one of which (no longer made) has a band that looks sorta like a CC band at first glance.

Cutting or punching cigars..what do you prefer?

For me it varies...I mostly use my Palio for smaller RG cigars, but for larger ones I tend to use my punch, as I prefer a hole or cut no larger than about a corona size. If necessary, to improve draw I will punch the center, then do a partial punch on either side to open the hole more. Some...

how do u make your drink

Name's correct. While at Shack Herf IV over the weekend I watched one of the guys mix up a mojito with dark rum, and it dawned on me how similar a mojito is to a mint julep.

how do u make your drink

Manhattan 3 oz. (1 double-shot) ordinary bar whiskey. I find I prefer Philadelphia for these. 3/4 oz (one half-shot) sweet vermouth. Stock or Martini & Rossi works best. Pour the whiskey in a glass of ice. Drop in a dash of Angostura bitters, add sweet vermouth. Drop in a maraschino...
