How do you drink your Zaya?

...usually in about 2.5 seconds flat! neat 99.9% of the time is how this one goes.

    Rums with Less Vanilla

Mark C is spot on imho. I'd also add that there's a chance you might confuse vanilla with bigger molasses based / influenced rums - this is likely where you associate Goslings to CMPS. As mentioned Martinique's agriculture rums are generally drier but also tend to have a pretty significant...

    Rums over $30

That sounds suspicious. There is at least 1 other (younger) offering of Centenario - maybe the price quote is for that? You have to figure the leather pouch is worth a couple of bucks at least. add that to 20 years of evaporation. $8 retail sounds like a losing proposition. But wtf do I know.

    Rums over $30

This brand has been a bit of a puzzle for me. Quiet as it's kept, I'm told the rum is actually Panamanian but bottled somewhere inside Costa Rica.

anyone got an empty Macallan 25?

Don't get caught. Technically it's illegal to do so... good thing you are just joking. :ss

    Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve

Maybe look at the 107pf. 15 year old Pappy. Old Rip Van Winkle 15 was my all time favorite Van Winkle related product. The Pappy 15 is a good follow up though and as mentioned has slightly more kick than the 20.

    Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve

This year's Van Winkle allocations are being filled as we speak. You should check with your ABC or what ever they call it in VA - there's a chance it'll be in sometime soon.

So I bought a bottle of the new Zaya...

Again jmho, but I don't believe the vanilla one might find in Zacapa, Centanario or even the old Zaya is a really noticeable nuance - other flavors dominate these rums. In the case of Angostura rums (including the new Zaya), vanilla is what I would go on a limb and label a dominant feature or...

So I bought a bottle of the new Zaya...

Centenario has some vanilla overtures but I associate that more with the usual relations of charred barrel and likely the reuse of bourbon barrel specific. Zaya, which is now made by the Angostura distillery, tastes like a continuation of the distillery's other products - all of which possess...

So I bought a bottle of the new Zaya...

The first thing to recognize is they are not the same. I'm partial to the old but have slowly come around to finding enjoyment in the new Trinidad release. Are you familiar with Angostura's rums - if so and you like them, you'll probably love the new Zaya. If you hate them, chances are you won't...

    Ron Centenaro XX

Told ya it was coming. Also just in case you don't have Diplomatico RE on hand, K&L (RWC location) has a handful of bottles. Cheers!

    I can't find Zaya anywhere!

I have tried it. I don't know about the "unbiased" parth tough. I can drink it (them) fine, but I'm not a huge fan of Angostura. So much for truly unbiased remarks / comparisons. From what little I've observed, they did however do a pretty good job keeping the hue similar between the old / new...

    I can't find Zaya anywhere!

I would caution, over the last couple of weeks CA's shelves have become heavily fortified with the newer Trinidad release. Including those 'grocery' stores so many have been getting lucky at. At least a couple of which that I visited had shelves filled with the newer. If your potential purchase...

    I can't find Zaya anywhere!

Funny you mention such things. We had a pretty decent earthquake Friday night and my first instinct was to run & check to make sure none of my Antique Collection bottles had taken a dive off the racks, as well as other bottles like the thread's title. Yesterday was a good day. Set out with the...

    Woodchuck Draft Cider

Use to get this @ TJs several years back, but haven't seen any in quite a while. Consumed the last bottle I had about 8 months ago.

    Ron de Barillito

People talk about the 4 and even 5 Star. It's so frequent, I believe there might have been some special bottling(s) only in PR or select markets, but as far as I know, the experts claim there are only 2 continuous bottlings, the 2 & 3 Star. If you come up on a 4 or more Star bottle be sure to...

    Best Rums Under $30

I'm sure someone, somewhere is named, Ron. :) But in this case, rum, the spirit, you see "Ron" so much because that word almost always = RUM in the native tongue of the product's origin. Ron Matusalem = (Rum Matusalem). The French term is Rhum. Haiti has French influence - notice their big...

    Best Rums Under $30

Because Ron is the Spanish term for "Rum" and... this might be self explanatory but... a lot of rums are produced in countries that are predominantly Spanish speaking.

    Ron Centenaro XX

Is that right Darrell???? If so, BevMo is supposed to start carrying it but Beltramos has Centenario XX on the shelf all day. I don't do shipping either. ;) If you really want to steal something... without risk of jail time, select Bay Area BevMos have St. Vincent Sunset Extra Gold - nothing...
