    Funny Taste in my Cigars

The only cigars I've ever smoked that I picked up a metallic taste from were Flor De Filipinas. It was a consisitent taste profile throughout the box, and I have no idea how they manage to achieve this unless they're adding heavy metals to the blend to spice things up a bit. Fairly nasty...

Every growing pile of junked lighters

I've always purged mine out the filling valve, though I don't know what difference it really makes. As far as flame adjustment, turning it up all the way is just as bad as all the way off - you won't get an effective flame. If it's too high, you'll get coughing, spurts, short bursts, etc...

Every growing pile of junked lighters

I like the PB-207 well enough that I have several, but I also have some really cheap torches and haven't lost one yet, though it's probably just a matter of time. Having 5 die is a pretty high mortality rate. Just out of curiosity, do you purge the air out of them prior to refilling? Also...

    For those considering an Aristocrat

I used to have a couple of Haier wine coolers set up that I had a hard time controlling in the summer - wild fluctuations in humidity. Since going with an Aristocrat, the swings are very mild and nothing the system can't handle. If the cooling units didn't need to run so much in the summer...

    Mad at Carnival Cruise Lines

The wife and I take a cruise pretty much every year or so. Carnival is one of the lines we've never tried. After reading this, we never will.

    Cohiba Vainilla

Excellent score! :tu I've searched all over Mexico in vain for the Vainillas. (Is that some sort of pun???) I can tell those are genuine Cohiba Vainillas from the packaging. Only real Cohiba Vainillas come in a glass (plastic?) top box. As everyone knows, the fake Domincan Cohiba Vainillas...

Aristocrat -- Temp controlled or regular and ....

You've brought up a couple of issues. First the Oasis. I think an Oasis II XL would work well. Anything smaller, like an XL, would probably require fairly constant filling. I had an Oasis XL II set up in a wine cooler and was very happy with it. On the other hand, Bob's set and forget...

    Smoke less but smoke better

I'm with Dave. I have a few less expensive smokes that I really enjoy and keep in my regular rotation. I look forward to smoking those as much as those with a higher price point. But if I don't truly enjoy a particular cigar, I don't smoke it and don't keep it. When I look in my humidors, I...

How come you don't see more posts about aged NCs?

I've got a few unopened boxes of NC's shoved to the back that I'm not planning on messing with for at least another 4 or 5 years, maybe longer. More of an experiment than anything else. I believe I have a box of Pepin Blues, a box of Don Carlos and some LFD Double Lingero Maduros back there...

Any suggestions on a 300-ct humidor?

Assuming you opt for a humidor, I use this one for singles, stuff I'm getting ready to smoke, and general odds and ends. I run an Oasis XL in it. Tampa Humidor It seals well, maintains constant humidity, and is a nice looking unit. You can get a few boxes in it as well if the need arises. I...

    A: Because it's annoying

If I ever start my own cigar line, I think that'll be it. Ashcan's Grumpy Ol' Bastard Cigars. Has a nice ring, no? I'll kick Cremosas ash. :D

    Plugged cigars...or elevated expectations?

I agree with this, although personally I think even lower end Fuentes, Padrons, etc draw much better than most CCs. It's a trade off - a certain taste profile for construction. When I smoke CCs, I think I unconsciously expect to encounter plugs. When it happens, I'm irritated but never...

    How well-known/respected is Sosa?

Funny to find this thread - we just got back from a week in Orlando and the wife had to see Downtown Disney. As we're walking down the street, I pick up the unmistakable aroma of CIGARS! I look around and there's the Sosa Cigar shop. "You go shop dear, I'll catch up!" Well, their prices were...
