    Black ash?

Had a premium cigar the other day and the ash was very dark, like 80% very dark grey/black. The taste was fine. The cigar had around 7 years of age. It was the darkest ash I've seen. Is this a sign the smoke is lower level construction?

    Loose Ash = Bad Construction?

This might seem obvious but lately I'm starting to get annoyed at cigars where the ash is loose and little pieces of it fall off during smoking. For me this is a sign of somewhat inferior construction. Although it may not affect the taste, I've noticed that premium smokes are generally rolled in...

    601 Serie Lancero

Black label rabito (6.5" x 46 I believe) and Pepin blend. Got this in a trade from Scott1966. Thanks for introducing me to this line! This cigar smoked great. Here's a mini-review: Construction: Nice smooth wrapper, triple cap on end and a little pigtail on the cap, the way you might find on a...

    Burn Issues with Padilla Miami?

Had a Belicoso today and the first half was burning great. Then I ashed it and the draw became really tight. Wondering if anyone else experienced this? I stored them at 65% RH tops.

How often do you check boxes for beetles?

Just curious, how often do you check your boxes for potential beetle/mold outbreaks? Wondering how often is enough to protect my stock and since the boxes are in coolers it's somewhat disruptive having to move everything around.

    Taste buds tired?

Just curious when taste buds get tired? I think I made a mistake of smoking 3 cigars in one sitting. 2/3 were fantastic, but then afterwards my taste buds seemed to have gone haywire. Some of the smokes I typically enjoy seemed off. But this is only 2-3 days after the 3 stogie smoke session. Is...

    Where to buy 858 Sungrown?

After starting to enjoy sungrown wrappers, I was curious about the 858 SG. Where do you go buy these? They seem to be out of stock everywhere. Is there a certain time they come out?

    Padilla Miami Robusto

Padilla 8/11 Miami Robusto Size: 5" x 50RG Wrapper: Criollo (medium/brown in color, smooth in texture) Filler: Corojo/Criollo Price: $9 Had one of these and here are some thoughts. Construction was good, with a triple cap that cuts easily. There are no obvious veins that protrude outward and it...

Packaging Issues for Padilla Miami Fixed?

Anyone buy a box of Padilla Miami's recently? I was wondering if the packaging issues were fixed. A while back I read, the cigars weren't too tightly packed so some got damaged in the box.

    Padilla Miami 8/11 Lonsdale

Just had one of these yesterday. This was recommended heavily by the B&M so I gave it a try. Construction was excellent and there was a little pigtail at the cap which I found interesting. The taste was excellent, with aromas of sweet, nutty cream which lasted through the entire smoke. The last...

    Need Help Understanding Padilla Cigars

I've been hearing a lot of hype about these lately, from these boards to even someone at my B&M saying great things. I heard these are similar to ISOMs. What are the differences between the lines, like the Padilla 8/11, 1932, hybrid in terms of taste? Getting ready to spring for some.

    Disconnect in cigar ratings?

Just curious, is there some kind of disconnect in ratings or are these threads self-selecting? My question is based on the fact that some cigars have such a loyal following, but yet their Top25 rating is lower than expected. For example, Ashton VSGs seem to have many fans (of which I am also)...

    Proper Technique for Aging?

Hi all, I was wondering whether there is a proper technique to aging cigars? Some basic questions are 1) Whether cigars need to be rotated in the box 2) Are cabinets better than boxes for aging 3) Coolerdors vs. cabinet humidors for aging 4) Proper RH% for aging? 5) Anything else I'm missing...

    Beads Bad for Long-term Storage?

Here is a quote from a well-known SuperNoob on these boards: Fuji and other sillicate manufactuers also do not recommend using these for storage of cigars. Quote from an email. "thanks for your inquiry. Unfortunately, Silica based products also adsorbs hydrocarbons in your case oils given off...

    Beads: Tubes vs. Converted Hygrometers

Battle of Beads in Tubes vs. Converted Hygrometers filled with Beads As a noob, I've been experimenting with tubes of beads vs. converted hygrometers (sponge replaced with beads). Tubes: Pros are you can put multiple tubes throughout the humi potentially making humidity more uniform. Cons are...

Storage Question: Some cigars harsh in 2nd humidor

In my second humidor, a small one, where the humidity drops below 65% sometimes (around 60-63%), I noticed a few of the cigars I smoked there have become harsher. Also, some of the wrappers cracked a little when smoking. I suspect it's because the humidity is too low? How to fix this up? I'm...
