    Aah Fall Has Arrived

East TN right now is beginning to cool down. We usually experience a hot/humid summer, long-lasting fall, very short winter, and mild spring. Right now it's cooling down, but in 2 weeks it could be 90+ again. Who knows.

    Olivia Special V Figurado

the Oliva V is "okay." It's spicy, strong, and otherwise not that great. It's a good cigar, but not something to call home about.

Gurkha G3 and Triple Ligero - Same Cigar?

Unless you're familiar with the Gurkha brand, it's hard to get a feel for the "family tree" of their cigars. The "g3" is inferior to the "triple ligero" blend. Of course, smoke what you like, but that being said...the triple ligero is supposed to be a much better cigar than the g3.

    5 Vegas Classic Robust

smoke best at 65 or 70 rh

i used to think people were stupid if they smoked "dryer" cigars. I thought, "you idiots, more humidity without mold = better!" I don't think that way anymore. After caring for my own cigars over the course of time, I just prefer 65.

    [need advice] social smoking?

wow, really? So you think I should have smoked a dog rocket to save face? I guess maybe I am a snob. I was hoping that wouldn't be the overall consensus. :(

    [need advice] social smoking?

I went to a Labor Day picnic with my wife's family on Sunday afternoon. One of her uncles (he's a semi-successful person, but still a redneck at heart) tries to push his $1.50 cigar on me. I thought ahead and brought a bunch of cigars for all the men, in case anyone wanted to smoke with me...

    Puff Puff Pass??

This has been frowned upon here before, but I have suggested smoking 2 cigars at once. Sort of like a "battle of the bands" musically. Smoke a Padron 3000 vs. Gurkha Warlord (two totally random pairings, used for this example). If the Padron 3000 wins, smoke it again the next Saturday night...

    H Upmann?

Upmanns are great cigars for folks that are trying to discover what they like. They are well made, burn well, and won't fail you (as a beginner aka BOTL in training). I would suggest trying everything you can get your hands on. That's the best suggestion around these parts. Try them all...

    Labor Day Smokes

My TN Vols will be playing on Monday night, so I might have a nice "victory cigar" if the ball bounces our way. I'm thinking either Oliva V double corono (churchill, if you will), or perhaps a Tat VI.

    I have discovered low humidity!

i think for short term storage high humidity is okay. But if you've got dozens or hundreds of smokes lying in wait, the 60%-65% is much better.

    Humisheet or nothing?

i would not worry about humidification over a short time period. In fact, sometimes taking them out of their proper element will make for a better smoke (especially if you keep them too high in your humi)

    Cigars for wedding

i think the idea of shorter sticks would be great if it were a wedding full of cigar smokers. The fact is, it's probably a bunch of folks who wouldn't give a damn if you gave them a Philly Titan. I'd buy a medium Toro size that didn't cost very much. That way they've got something big to...

What do you guys think about the Pepin JJ Maduro?

i thought they were only like $10/stick.

    CAO Brazilia Gol!

i've found with many cigars that "spice" dissipates with a little age.

Anyone else hate having to take the band off?

i've never had a problem with very delicately removing the band. If 1 in 1000 cigar bands stick to the wrapper as i'm delicately peeling it away, I just think it wasn't meant to be. There's more than 1 reason why I take off the band. 1. I don't like the "feel" of the band in my hands...
