Guilty pleasure of and evolving Newbie

I was recently gifted an Acid Atom Maduro by a friend. I was quite reluctant to smoke it, after hearing everything negative in this board about Acids. I also didn't want it hanging around with the rest of my smokes in the humi. So I torched it the day after I received it. Surprisingly, it wasn't...

    Router suggestions

Look at the Hitachi M12V, very powerful, will run 1/2" diameter bits, and is a plunge router. I have had one for 5 years, found it omn sales at Lowe's, and have been very happy with it. http://www.woodcentral.com/bparticles/M12V.shtml Google will turn up any more articles. Good Luck.

    Smoking stogies and sinuses?

I "snork" with every pull, and it also makes my nose run. I always have tissues handy. This time of year is usually bad for my sinuses, but since I gave up the devil cigarettes, and don't inhale my cigars, this year is much better.

    Shilala Beads

Thanks for the clarification, I tend to get paranoid at times . . . Also, you descriptions were quite good, you should have been a science teacher.

    Shilala Beads

Scott, you have said not to place anything damp in the humidor with the beads (I have 1/2 lb in my desktop and 1-1/2 lbs in my small cooler). I have saved (pack rat that I am) four or five of the cedar sheaths that have wrapped some of my cigars (H. Upmann vintage cameroon comes to mind). When...

    Cigar draw and Padron's

Last Friday (09/05) I received a fiver of Illusione cg:4 from a box split. Was going to smoke one on Sunday 09/07, and after cutting I noticed the draw was VERY bad, could hardly draw any air through the cigar. Needless to say I did not light this one, but placed it back in the humi (about...

    100th post

Never thought I would hang around to write 100 messages of dubious content, yet here I am. I have learned so much here, not only about the cigars themselves but also the gear and processes surrounding them. You have taught me how to properly cut, light, and savour some very tasty smokes since I...

Newbie Review of A.fuente short story

Did the stick have any age? I have a longer version Hemingway I had been saving for New Year's, but maybe I should smoke it now. Have had it for about three weeks. BTW, nice job on the write-up/

Project of the Day : Engraved Oak 3 Stick Travel Case

The Freud dados are pretty cool once they are set up. They actually are very smooth to use and mine has always produced a very clean cut, even on a cheapie table saw. I have also used it (the 6") on my old DeWalt Radial arm saw, but I think I might now be wiser than I was then . . . I love...

Project of the Day : Engraved Oak 3 Stick Travel Case

Nice work Scott, I am always afraid to work on anything that small for fear I will lose a finger. Did you get your dado blade problem straightened out? I found a 6" stacked dado by Freud on Amazon for a pretty fair price...

My thumbs up to Tampa Humidor

Same thing happened to me when I ordered my "imperfect". Received a phone message when I arrived home at 5:30 that there was a problem with my order. It was 6:30 in FL, but I called anyway. Got an actual person, they were extremely nice, told me the one I requested was too damaged for them to...

What's your rotation look like lately?

Recently I had a Oliva O maduro torpedo that was VERY tasty, highly recommended!. Also, a few of the Jose LR sticks from Taboo, but those lean more towards the mild side. I have discovered that I prefer SP EF to SP DM, and have more of those coming, I love the fuerte's and it is ALL SCOTT's...

    Mixed Nuts

I throw all of the Brazil nuts out of the mixed cans. I finally started buying cans of roasted peanuts for every day, and a can of cashews for those special occasions. Also cans of almonds. The "mix" gets me started, and then I separate the corn from the manure and just buy the corn. Same thing...

Project of the Day : Vinotemp Drop-in Chest of Drawers Prototype

In a nutshell, bookmatching is resawing a board and gluing the two halves edge to edge to make a mirror image of the grain pattern. With an interesting pattern the result can be quite striking. It is the main reason I would love to have a bandsaw. Keep posting pictures of your projects, they are...

What did you smoke during the CS outage?

A Gurkha. Glad this place is back to talk some sense into me.

    cigarros in omaha

I was also in Cigarro's recently, I was sad to see the state it is in. Since half the "front room" is a wine display, I don't see how they could give up their liquor license. I swear I could hear crickets, saw only one other person the 30 minutes I was in there on a Sat afternoon. I also spoke...

Project of the Day : Vinotemp Drop-in Chest of Drawers Prototype

Now you're gonna get fancy on us and start doing bookmatched sides. Keep after it. You have the "knack" for this kind of work.

    Yes!!! I Did It!

My wife shoved me into this hobby a year after we both quit cigarettes. "I'd like a cigar, let's go to <bar where we used to be able to smoke>" Since then I have bought her serveral packs of cigarillos, and a couple of weeks ago she asked "I'm almost out of Eileen's Dream, are you ordering any...

Project of the Day : Vinotemp Drop-in Chest of Drawers Prototype

Scott, nice, well-thought-out design and great execution!! Norm Abrams would be proud. How is the new Band saw working out for you? Keep cranking on these projects, you may yet inspire me back into my own workshop/garage.
