I have a question that may have been asked here before but here I go...
As you all may know I recently posted the info about the Puros Indios on sale at JRs. I got some of mine in on Friday (I got the #4s and the #2s are in transit). Now, I know I need to let them "sleep" a while after shipping to settle down but I gave one a try. It wasn't bad but it wasn't nearly as good as the last one I had which I bought at a local shop as a single. The expierence I had with the single caused me to jump at the chance order the ones at JR.
The single really knocked my sox off! Flavor and burn were perfect and balanced. It reminded me of the Fuente Hemingway Signature in every aspect but size. As a matter of fact I liked the Puros better and I love the Hemingway! I let my new shipment sleep for 3 days first before I fired one up. It tasted like a different cigar. It was just an average smoke.
I began to look into it and there is some contention as to the band that is on the Puros and what "batch" it may have come from. All mine that came from JRs have the green band with a gold outline. The single that "changed my life" had a smaller green band with a red outline. There is supposed to be a third band that is green with gold dots around the edges. I have read that the one with red is the best/oldest, then the gold lined is younger, then the gold dots are the youngest. Anyone know for sure?
FWIW, my boxes of #2s that came in Friday were cello wrapped and many were covered with dots of blume! I think they should be several years old at least. The cello has turned a coffee color from time and there is no hint of mold. They look great. Can I expect these to mello with a few months of sleep? Is there a difference in the bands/batches with the PIs? Am I just crazy?
Bottom line is I feel that the price is fair for what I got but I expected so much more. The difference between the single I bought and these boxes is night and day.
Thanks.
