Am I crazy or are these PIs different?

I have a question that may have been asked here before but here I go...

As you all may know I recently posted the info about the Puros Indios on sale at JRs. I got some of mine in on Friday (I got the #4s and the #2s are in transit). Now, I know I need to let them "sleep" a while after shipping to settle down but I gave one a try. It wasn't bad but it wasn't nearly as good as the last one I had which I bought at a local shop as a single. The expierence I had with the single caused me to jump at the chance order the ones at JR.

The single really knocked my sox off! Flavor and burn were perfect and balanced. It reminded me of the Fuente Hemingway Signature in every aspect but size. As a matter of fact I liked the Puros better and I love the Hemingway! I let my new shipment sleep for 3 days first before I fired one up. It tasted like a different cigar. It was just an average smoke.

I began to look into it and there is some contention as to the band that is on the Puros and what "batch" it may have come from. All mine that came from JRs have the green band with a gold outline. The single that "changed my life" had a smaller green band with a red outline. There is supposed to be a third band that is green with gold dots around the edges. I have read that the one with red is the best/oldest, then the gold lined is younger, then the gold dots are the youngest. Anyone know for sure?

FWIW, my boxes of #2s that came in Friday were cello wrapped and many were covered with dots of blume! I think they should be several years old at least. The cello has turned a coffee color from time and there is no hint of mold. They look great. Can I expect these to mello with a few months of sleep? Is there a difference in the bands/batches with the PIs? Am I just crazy?

Bottom line is I feel that the price is fair for what I got but I expected so much more. The difference between the single I bought and these boxes is night and day.

Thanks.

What you really need to look for is what kind of wrapper they had/have. Puros has a bunch of different types of wrappers for each vitola. Check to see if the one you had before was the same as the new ones.

You raise a good point and I think that the wrappers may have been different. I have the Colarado Claro and the single I bought was more brown and had almost no red in the wrapper. I saw no indication on the box of the wrapper of the single so I may have to invistegate further. Whatever it is I will be sure to continue to investigate because that single was incredible.

Thanks for the info.

I had a very similar experience. Can't remember any details about the bands right now, but the PI#4s I've tried were all maduro wrapper. Ordered a batch from JR, who only offered the Colorado Claro, and I was very disappointed. Nowhere near as good as the maduros I had already tasted. Next time you want PI#4s, order the maduros from OnePyroTec.

I too ordered the Maduro from OPT, a real light wrapper maduro, outstanding. I am afraid to order the Colorado, I have heard that the Maduro is much better. Check with OPT. }>

my personal favorite is the colorado wrapper
not the colorado claro
not the claro
but the regular colorado
the maduros are good also
and the double maduro is also good

100% agree with Kerry on this one - colorado is my fave, followed by mads and we've been smoking them since PI was born (actually smoked Cuba Aliadios before they became PI). The other posters are also right, they have so many wrappers you have to be real careful and order from OPT - he'll get what you want at a great price! :7

Ordered a box from OPT, the maduro #4s, and all i can say is they are wonderful, incredible, outstanding. I truely love that smoke. Now they have sat for the entire winter, and should be even better!! i would be happy to send you some if you like, or want to try them. let me know.
