Anyone find they can determine draw by feel?

As of late I've noticed I can quite accurately determine whether a cigar I'm about to smoke will have tight draw, be too loose, or just right simply by feeling the cigar with the typical pinch technique. I've accurately judged the draw on the last 5 cigars I've pulled out of my humi so far.

Just wondering if anyone else can tell by feel as so far from what I've read on here it seems a good majority cut and try cold drawing before lighting to determine the draw.

I have had sticks feel hard as a rock and then when I cut them they draw perfectly. I have also had sticks that felt loose but ended up being plugged. So the answer is no I can't tell just by feel, but if you can that is great. :tu

No, I can tell how tightly the tobacco is packed, but that's about it. Have you tried you technique on habanos from 99-01?? I've smoked tightly packed cigars that had a loose draw and have smoked a loose feeling cigar with a plug in it. I always test the draw after clipping and before lighting the cigar.

:tpd: I wish I could!

I have never been able to tell, you must be far more talented than I. Sticks will feel rock hard and smoke amazingly loose. I had a Boli CC recently with one of the softest feels ever and couldn't draw worth a lick, felt like trying to drink a half gallon of hard ice cream with a straw. :hn

I know a couple girls who could probably pull that off!! :r

I guess I just got lucky then with the 5 I tested, that's why I was wondering. All the ones I tried determining the draw on were NC's. But it was odd cause I was spot on with each. I guess after some more I will certainly run into some that I will be wrong on. :hn Thanks for the replies.

Who knows Rev, you may just have a hidden talent. If so it is one I am envious of. :tu

Tell us how you arrive at this and what you look for if a cigar is plugged? I'd love to know the criteria.

Well, I first take out the cigar and feel along the entire length by gently pinching it. I also kinda get a feel of the weight. I've noticed a lot of the cigars that I have feel more weighty than others of the same size often tend to be packed tight. Also, by noticing if the cigar is humidified right, or if it appears a bit too dry, can make a difference on the feel. If it seems kind of on the dry side the feel will be a little stiffer rather than being judged as packed tight.

That's the best I can explain it. It's not some scientific method I devised or anything lol :D I just posted cause I was wondering if I just got lucky with those 5 I tried checking or if anyone else has been pretty accurate determining draw based on feel and examining the cigar. Of course, there are plenty of variables to throw this method off and make it useless. Based on the responses I'm guessing it was probably just dumb luck.
