Burn issues/Maverick humidor(Help)

LLG's,

I have a problem here. I have a cabinet humidor that works great for about 50 boxes or so. I also have a Maverick acrylic 300+ humi that I have had for years and it has served me very well. Once I got the cabinet humi I began to use the acrylic for my "smoker box" and I keep it filled with one or two of each kind of smoke so I can open it up and smoke without always opening up the cabinet (I am a 2-3 cigar a day guy). There is a lot of cedar in the Maverick and it has been in constant use for years. None of my smokes make contact with the acrylic material and they float in a SC basket in the middle of the box.

Now that the Maverick is at about 40% capacity as opposed to the 90%+ capacity it used to be at when it was my main humi I am having a hard time getting any smokes over 46 RG to burn well. Here is what they are doing: They start off fine then one side stops burning. By the time I am done smoking (I have to keep burning the one side with a lighter) the gar is wet and gooey in the last 1/3 or so and turns harsh.

My first guess was high humidity so I salt checked the hygro and now shoot for an RH of 65% as opposed to the 70% I used to keep. I also switched to Climaxx beads at 65% last week because my old sponge was huge and may have caused issues. It has been almost a month and the sysmtoms persist.

Do I need to give it more time? Any ideas?

Why not try some of the same smokes out of the big cabinet just to test if the acryllic box is the problem?

Good point, Lusi.

Yes they burn like a champ out of the cabinet but once theye are in the Maverick for a while (weeks) they start this up.

That is my hope. I have never heard of condensation inside a humidor but who knows. It looks if the problem might restricted to the side of the cigar that was facing the center of the humi. My hope is now that the sponge is not in there it will slowly even out.

I guess that's all I can do for now.

Is there any chance that acrylic humi gets hit with sunlight during the day? Just an idea.

the problem is pretty obvious to me. OVerhumidification.

It takes time for it to correct itself so just wait a few months. THe cigars will even out until the end and the center dry out a little. In 2 or 3 months, your wetgars will be nice cigars again.
