[updated:LAST EDITED ON Apr-25-02 AT 12:43 PM (CDT)]Took most of the day off yesterday to take a disabled herfin' buddy to the Atlanta Auto Show and to smoke some cigars.

First we hit the 'Rose & Crown' pub in the Buckhead area for lunch. I scarfed up a curried chicken sandwich and washed it down with a Boddington's. Then it was 'fire to leaf' time. I pulled a Boli CG from '98 out of my Road Warrior, a big, oily sucker, and lit up. Ahhhhhhh! Heaven! Lots of cedar flavor that grew into a leathery, creamy smoke with a great draw and blackish-gray ash. My buddy had a Cohiba Millennium Reserve Piramide that he'd been gifted and had saved for quite a while. As he kicked back and smoked it, all he could keep saying was, "Damn!" (With assorted "Ooohs and Ahhhhs" thrown in here and there.)

Since it was the opening day of the auto show, the crowds were not too bad and we got in just after it opened at 1 PM. We headed for a section where he said he wanted to show me something. When we got into the Ford section, he stopped me and pointed to a white vehicle up on a display and said, "Haven't told you this yet cuz I wanted to surprise you. I've got deposit down for one of the 2003 models of those. But mine will be black." The car? The new T-Bird. I called him a miserable bastard and left him there. Just kidding.

We then went on an toured the whole place. While looking at all the new models and the outrageous 'Concept Cars' was fun I got the biggest kick out of watching all the fathers and their little kids. Man, that brought back memories of when I used to take my sons to the show. It was really cool to see the kids' faces as their eyes got big and wide checking out all the cars and trucks and climbing in and out of them. They sounded just like my boys did when they were little as they were saying things like, "What's this Daddy?", "Can I sit on the seat Daddy?" and "Daddy, Daddy come here! You gotta see THIS!" For those of you with small kids...enjoy every moment with them....they grow up sooooo fast. :'(

My friend can only walk (with his cane) for short periods of time and tires rather quickly due to his Transverse Mylitis condition. So we only did one tour of the show and then headed back up to the northern suburbs where we live. He was just too tired to do any more smoking, so I dropped him off, went into the office to check on a couple things and then headed to my local pub near home.

I lit up a SLR Corona from 04/97 (Thank you Ilja) and started sipping on a Guinness, as I reflected on the whole day. It was fun to take a day off and 'smell the roses.' Good food. Good smokes. Good friends.

Damn! I need to do things like this more often. And I will.
