Do round digital hygrometers exist?

I just picked up my humidor today, and I'm really pleased with it apart from the obviously inacurate hygrometer.

Without even calibrating it I can tell that it's a very very cheap one.

The needle flicks around at the slightest tap of the unit, so I was thinking about replcing it.

The hole for it is already in the humidor, so i was wondering...

Has anyone seen any round hygrometers that are also very accurate and digital, to directly replace it in the box (2 inch diam hole).

All the ones I've ever seen are square.

I've got two of them. I got them at my local tobacconist and wouldn't know where else to get one. I have not come across any online, but now you know they exist you can start looking harder. If you don't find one let me know, maybe I can help.

Thanks jack, that's good to know.

Do they have a brand name?

Also, any idea on the size of them? Like I said, I need one to fit in a 2 inch hole with velcro or whatever.

Thanks again.

I don't know the brand. It will fit snug in a 2 2/16" hole.
Here's a pic of mine, which I would guess to be the same set up as yours.

Hope this helps, I will look into it some more for you.

Digital Hygrometer/ Thermometer
Item# FH-DIGITAL
Digital Hygrometer/ Thermometer-
Extremely Accurate! Displays current relative humidity & temperature in Fahrenheit. Measures approx. 2-3/4" Diameter x 3/4" in Depth. An excellent deal! Find hygrometers like this very one at your local cigar shops for $35!

This was the only one I could find on-line.

Thanks poker...

However, I just measures the hole the original hygrometer was in...
It's only 1.5 inches afterall...

Not sure how I'd go about widneing that without ruining it...making a new hole is one thing as you have the center of the wood for the pilot on the drill bit to grip to...Lord knows how you make an existing hole slightly larger without having the drill skoot all over the place.

Any thoughts?

Hrmph...I think I may need to rethink this whole thing again.

Exact measurments are 1 3/4" wide.

The hole is less than 3/4" deep too, (1 1/16th too shallow) so Even if I did widen the mounting, it wouldn't mount flush.

Is this a common size for regular needle guage hygrometers?
The ones I've seen online more often seem to give the full diameter and not the mounting diameter needed to set the guage into the wood.

After taking a Micrometer to mine, I get .440" which is a 1/4" on the mountable recess, then 2.200" which is 2 3/16" mounting insertion and 2.905" which is 2 7/8" for the outside ring. If you have a micrometer, use it, it’s easier to measure inside dimensions. This is the most common size for a round Hygrometer. As you can see from the included pic, it's the same size as a standard analog. I hope this helps, sorry for being so techish with the specs, but every little bit helps.

If your plate is similar to mine, as in removable. You can take it off and use a jig or band saw with some steady hands and cut it larger. You may know someone who has these saws.
Ask yourself too, is it worth the time and trouble. I would do it, but that’s me. Mine has a plastic grommet inside the opening, yours may have one and you could remove it, possibly making the opening larger. Just a thought!

Thanks jack...That's extremely helpful.

The plats it's mounted on isn't removable like yours. It's actualy glued to the top of the humidor.

So just to specify, the depth the hygrometer would need to go into the hole is just 1/4 of an inch?

The widening of the hole wouldn't be too much hassle, but if it needed to be deeper, I'd actualy have to remove the old plate and replace it with a new one to allow a deeper mounting.

Just got one for 15.50 on ebay...

The whole depth is apparently 3/4 " so it shouldn't have a problem fitting, depth wise...I'll just have to figure out a way of widening the hole.
