Garo Habano Cigar - Anyone ever try one or hear of it?

Last time anybody mentioned a Garo cigar on here was back in 2006 so I thought I'd post about my experience with one I tried recently.

A buddy of mine just picked up a few of these cigars at the Concours d'Elegance car show over in Rancho Palos Verdes at Trump National Golf Course the other weekend. I couldn't make it but it looked like a great time.

We smoked a couple on Thursday and while I'd never heard of them before, I was pretty impressed.

The cigar I had was a Garo Habano Blue Robusto and I'd say it was a medium-bodied cigar, drew well, had a great even burn (no issues), nice ash and good flavor. That's pretty much the extent of my reviewing ability right now in these early days of my hobby. I wish I could tell you more than 'I liked it'.

Before I was able to do some research on my own, another buddy Danny (Dannysguitar) informed me that the company is based in our backyard, well, more like Danny's backyard, over in Glendale, California.

I like the idea of supporting another local American cigarmaker and plan on buying some more to try.

So has anyone ever heard of these things? The guy who mentioned Garo back in 2006 on CS didn't like 'em one bit. Perhaps they've gotten better since then. What's your experience with Garo?

I have heard of them, but never tried one. I have a friend that has smoked one of the Verde's (not sure if they are made still) before years ago. I remember him saying he liked it though.
The guy who owns Garo Habano is Dr Garo Bouldoukian. He's a member on a few different boards. Here is a link to youtube showing part of the rolling process at the factory in the Dominican Republic.

You know, I don't really know. All I know is that they were asking $30 for a dang cigar at the event but somehow my buddy got 'em down to $15. I still think that's high but I haven't had a chance to check 'em out online.
