Gurkha and Pepin Treatment

Most of the pepins will be good smokes....The Ghurkas will all taste like dirt...literally

Pepin supposedly says his cigars are ready to be smoked when shipped. I have had good luck on that with the JJs, but find that the blues and blacks benefit from sitting a little - esp if they are shipped a little wet. Specifically, letting a blue-label Imperiales rest really smoothed it out.

I have no idea on Gurkhas.

Pepins should go into your humi and adjust the RH to 60-65.

The Gurkha's should be tossed into the nearest trash can!!

I hope that helps...:ss

no love for the gurkhas huh. Ive never had one but every B&M i go to is loaded with em.

Same here, and I gotta tell you...I'm dying to try one. Hell, I might even follow it up with a Cremosa. Chalk it up to morbid curiosity.

Never had a Gurkha.
Trying to avoid this "contempt prior to investigation" mindset.
If I don't like them, I can bitch to my heart's content.
If I do like them, I guess I will hide.
Like the old Alka-Seltzer commercial, "Try it you'll like it".
So I tried it.
Thought I was gonna die.

I have to know . . .

Not all Gurkhas (many of which are made by Torano) are bad. I like the Master Selects pretty well. But never buy them at retail price. Always check out the auction sites for these.

And ignore all the Gurkha packaging and marketing :BS.

I may get flamed for this, but Gurkha's aren't objectively as bad as everyone says. They just aren't good for the price they MSRP at, or even a fraction of that price. They are also way over advertized which turns a lot of people off.

I won't buy Gurkhas at any price because I think their rediculous MSRPs are misleading to novice smokers who think they are getting a super premium when that's just not the case. But I got a few for free on a gurkha givaway from their website and thought they were not great, but good.

There's just too many really good inexpensive cigars out there for me to buy Gurkhas.:2

Pepin told many of us at an event that his cigars are not meant to be aged in terms of years. From my experience, I would have to concur. Although a little rest does them well.

I like some of the Gurk's that I've had. NEVER pay retail for them though. It's a nice 3-5 dollar smoke. I think most people have a mindset when they try them. Kinda like Cubans. IF you think it'll suck, it'll probably suck. But if you think it'll be the best ever... you get the point.

There's a thread on here for a blind Gurk taste test. I noticed that not alot of people had the balls to give them a fair shot, since not many people signed up for it.

Anyway, rant over. Give them a shot. If you like them then smoke them, if not, at least you gave them an honest shot. Don't listen to anyone elses opinion other than your own... it's the one that counts:tu

I'm with Bax - most people like a little from any line. Same with the Gurkhas. Try a few different ones and make up your own mind. Ex. I don't think a AF is anything to brag about (to harsh as a rule to me) exception being the King B and in the Padron Series so far I only like the 1964 sticks but find them more over priced than a Gurkha (at least the Gurks I can get on cbid as noted $3 - $5 a stick). As most like like these 2 brands - good for them, they don't get my money.

Smoke what ya like. Asking some one else how a stick is going to taste to you is an impossible question.

I would let the Pepins rest a couple weeks before firing them up as they usually don't smoke their best ROTT.

I'm sure I'm a little late on posting this but, I would let the Furete and the Legend rest for about a month or so, those are the only ones in that sampler that i have any expreince with, as for the Pepins, I can't say....have smoked only one.

I got that gurkha here if ya want it..just need to meet up!

I like quite a few of the Gurkhas and pretty much all of the Pepin I have tried...give the Gurkha some time...alot of them smooth out after 6+ months (I know not what you want to hear..LOL)

In my experince most shipments from CI need a little rest in the humi. They seem to need to dry out some. CI must store their stock in the higher RH% range to handle the conditions during shipping.

As to the Gurkha's, if you like them order more and enjoy them. Ignore the brand bashers.
Like what you smoke and smoke what you like. Thats for you to decide.

I have smoked cigars for 30 plus years and I have never thrown away a cigar because it was a bad one. I have had several that I would never purchase again, but I guess someone likes them or they would not be on the market. Gurkha must be good in someone's mind because they sell a load of them. :ss
