IHRC #2--Taboo LR Havana Robusto

Will Whore for Cigars
Thanks for all the comments on Review Corner Edition #1. I learned a few things, smaller pictures and smaller thread title!

Today's victim is the Taboo Limited Reserve Havana Robusto.

Here we are waiting for the sweet flames of death.
001-1.jpg

This another fine looking cigar from Taboo. Great color and the wrapper has a slightly rough texture to it. No bumps or big veins. It is very solidly constructed, or as I guess we would say here in the jungle...it's a "hard cigar".

The aroma is very sweet, floral and perfumy. I could not place my finger (or nose) on what the aroma was. Put it down and sniffed on and off for a few minutes before it hit me, (with apologies) lavender. Yeah, I know.

Lit up with no problems. Using a Nibo dual flame torch. Draw was a little firmer than the LR Connecticut I reviewed earlier. Spicy wood is the flavor off the light.

Here it is 3 minutes in.
002-1.jpg

Gives off a decent amount of smoke, but not the "fog" I enjoy most. There is definitely a spiciness to this stick. It lingers in the mouth after the draw for a few minutes. Not unpleasantly, but it is different. The burn is nice and straight.

10 minutes in...
003-3.jpg

The burn is staright, but angled as you can see. Was able to correct by rotating the cigar. The draw has opened up nicely at this point. The spice has changed slightly. Can;t quite describe the taste but it is a change from the first 10mins. It still lingers on the tongue. the ash is light gray and tight. I bumped it with my finger and it didn't flinch!

20 minutes in....
004-1.jpg

Ash behaving like the LR Conn, bending slightly. Not sure if that something I am doing, or the constrcution of the cigar. Had to tap the ash off (got the shakes today afraid I'd wear it) and it did not want to let go!

The flavor has picked up that floral taste..lavender. That's the best that comes to mind. The spice has faded a bit.

Nice cone on this one. Yo Yo heard she was a hit in the last review, demands payment for further pics in kibble.
005.jpg

At the 30 minute mark, the burn is good and straight and the draw is now nearly perfect. It really opened up in the last 10 minutes or so. The floral aroma is still there, but the flavor has turned to a spicy wood taste.

40 minutes in and a nutty flavor has appeared with the unidentified spice. However, the lingering spice effect is gone.

At 45 minutes, the burn started going crooked. The nuttiness is gone now, but the spice remains with a very subtle smoothness (hard to explain).

52 minutes and done...
006-1.jpg

You can see the burn issue here. Touched up once and it went right back to this. The ash is still holding tight, but it has started to harsh up a bit. Put it down after this pic.

I didn;t enjoy this one as much as the LR Conn and I think it was that sweet aroma. It put me off a bit. Still, it's a nice smoke, with a nice mild flavor for me.

I give it....

Thanks for a great review. ALthough I enjoyed yout last Review Corner, I applaud the minor tweaks for reader ease here! :tu

Also, I have to say I am EXTREMELY glad to see the cat make another guest appearance. I hope you continue to encorporate the feline perspective, no matter how dissapproving he seems to be. Mine does the same, ha ha.

I feel like a buffoon not having tried the Taboo line yet with all the raves on the board. Ashamed even! Got to get it together.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!

good review
as with all of us, we have our favorites. i've been through the whole sampler and the havana robusto was my favorite of the bunch. i've even ordered a bunch.
that's what makes the world go round~~~

Thanks for the review...Do you know if anyone reviewed the maduro yet?

I don't think so.

As far as the new LR's go with my Local Customers, the Conn is the winner and the Havana and Maduro are tied for 2nd.

I will say I think the Figurado and Torps are the best vitolas. I do have several locals that are on their second bundles of robustos though.

After about 60 days, we should vote?

Didn't get the review done today, had too much going on.. I will put it up tomorrow.. it was a GOOD stick.. I think I liked it better than the havana and the connecticut, but thats just me.

[I found a couple of weeks in the humidor fixed the burn issue with the one's I ordered]Thanks for all the comments on Review Corner Edition #1. I learned a few things, smaller pictures and smaller thread title!

I just finished my first LR Havana, and I was rather impressed. My first thoughts were that this is very Fuente-ish. Nutty, spicy, peppery, woody. Very firm construction, good draw, lovely aroma. I'm new at this, but the cigar struck me as well rooted in the Habana tradition, which due to the name seems to be what Rob was reaching for. Overall I enjoyed the cigar, but I think this is another cigar that would also benefit from a smaller vitola, the cigar got a bit strong for me towards the end. I let it go out with about 1 1/2" left. I've got a figurado and a torp in the Havana, and I think they may be a bit too large and strong for my preferences.

I can see how this cigar could finish strong for some folks. I think a Corona would be nice. Even though you don't like larger vitolas, you should like the overall smoke of the Fig and Torp even more. Thanks for suggesting a smaller vitola. Have you had the Conn LR yet?
Thanks for posting
Rob
