The one thing I cant find out is how far down on the cap of the cigar so I cut?

All you need to do is just cut the cap off. Literally, shave as little off as possible and test the draw. I only cut off more if the draw is hard.

Take off as thin a slice as you can.
If you need to take more off you can but once you take too much off you can't put it back.:tu

Ah thank you! I'm just starting out obviously, and up until now I've just had White Owls, which come pre-punched, and I just got myself a cheap little cutter today and decided to practice with those so I dont mess up a good cigar!

Until you get used to it:

1. Open your cutter and put it on a flat surface. (table)
2. Put the end of your cigar through the cutter, so that the cigar end is touching the flat surface.
3. Quickly snip!
