Matches.

RumblePen

Evolving Lead Gorilla
Product: Matches

Manufacturer: Who knows. Probably Chinese people in China.

Cost: Free.

Where to Obtain: Just go into any gas station and ask the person behind the counter if you could have some matches. If they say no and give you some speech about them being for paying customers only, get all huffy and stomp on out of there letting them know you plan on taking your business else where. You're an important person and there are plenty of other gas stations who will be more than happy to give you a free pack of matches without any purchase obligations. In such establishments, feel free to help yourself to the Give-a-Penny-Take-a-Penny dish. They sometimes contain nickels.

Ease of Use: These were a bit hard to figure out for they contained no directions (I'll be sure to complain about this to the register girl when I go in for my next pack).

Matches are a great way to light your cigar provided you have a lighter on hand. I like to light the whole book on fire with my zippo then hold the cigar to the blaze.

Downsides: 1. They're only good for one cigar and are not refillable. 2. They sometimes contain commercials on the front cover that, sadly, Tivo can not erase. 3. The register girl is kind of homely. (You'd think the Mobile would hire a prettier girl to entice me to visit more often, and therefore increase their match sales.)

Long ago as a kid I collected match books. I still have about 5 five gallon pickle jars full of then in the garage. Some the pacific island ones are quite attractive and I got some that isn't fit to show no one :) Strip bars and a Billy Carter H**rd on. Well did till the rubber degraded. And if I went through then I prob got at least 5 decks of cards. 2 of clubs seems to have been the most common one. And hey they do the trick, so do not write them off. And what ya doing getting stogies at a Mobil station :)

My thought, exactly. Someone needs to sit Rumple down and have a serious talk about sources!!! ROFL

I just get the matches from the Mobile station. No matter how many times I asked, I could not get a free Garcia Vega. I did however get a free paper cup with a hole in it. When I tried to return this product the homely register girl told me they all come like that and she said something about oil but I stopped listening.

If you will get a little pectin from the store, and mix it into a paste, you might be able to cover the hole, and still use that cup. If it is the same cup I am thinking about, it is somewhat larger than the standard water fountain cup, and therefore worthy of trying to repair, as it will hold more water than those dainty little ones beside the fountains!!

RumblePen shall I embarrass myself and ask if you ever seen an oil can and not a bottle. Yano the kind ya needed a sharp pointy end and a curved spout. One to poke in to open and the other to pour with. I got several. One day I hope to get rich off ebay with them.

Excellent review RP. I needed a good chuckle this morning. Did I understand correctly....You cannot actually use these matches without first lighting them with a lighter??

The book I received did not have an ignition button.

Matches

I find myself using them more and more. I use them whenever I can. I like the way the matches light the cigar slowly rather than the torch just burning the crap out of it at a 1,2,3 pace.

Matches are the best to use when you can. But when outside the lighter must be used if you want a good light.

When I asked for a book of matches at the corner gas station, Sierra Madre Gas & Treasures, my experience went something like this:

Me: Excuse me, ma'am, do you have any matches?

Homely girl at counter: Matches? We ain't got no matches! We don't need no matches! I don't have to show you any stinking matches!

I was in a town and asked for a book of matches at a gas station and they would not give me any. They said that there was a law in the town that Gas Stations could not give them out. That foiled my Arson plans for the evening!!!

They did sell lighters though.

LOL!

Be careful what you fish for. It's only a matter of time before the "nanny state" legislators mandate extensive usage and warning labels on the front.

eww...
Matchbooks have many more chemicals (I believe) than wooden matches.

Sorry to say, but I have done this. Had a box of kitchen matches, and the strike pad wore down. What was I supposed to do, light the cigar with the lighter. INSANITY!!! Actually, you would be amazed at the looks you get when doing this..."Is he drunk or just mental"...I am probably both:D

That is why I keep a box of strike anywhere matches around. Just incase.

I like matches too. The Davidoff matches that most cigar stores get with the cigar shop name printed on the back are exceptional matches. I like to stay away from the cheapo sticks from the gas station. Any decent restaurant will have match books. There's a couple of restaurants I like just because the have good matches and I'll take 5-6 books on the way out.
