This review is intended to be a reliable resource for unbiased advice/recommendations on a public place to relax and enjoy your cigar, eat and drink the tri-State area. This submission is by Novasurf and the Big Red Machine.

You gotta like a place where you have to walk down stairs to get in. Core 191, tucked away on Orchard Street in the Lower east side of NYC has such an entrance. Part bar, part lounge, part restaurant, part theater. Upon entering you are welcomed by a fine Latina hostess who whisks you passed the empty bar. Empty?! What gives?

On this warm summer night, everyone was partying in the outdoor garden where you can eat, drink, and smoke in comfort. Core 191’s “backyard” is surrounded by ivy covered brick and ferns. It is the perfect setting for an after work cocktail, cigar, or glass of wine. The appetizers are tapas-like….smaller portioned but all delicious. The dinner portions are not huge, but burst with flavor. The pricing is moderate, but hey….you’re in NYC.

The casual vibe nicely complements the food, which is perfect for long lazy evenings spent catching up with friends, which is what everyone seemed to be doing. No one is in a rush, and if you plan on dining at Core 191, you shouldn’t be either. Leave your Blackberry at home.

On Tuesday nights at 8:30, classic films are shown on the back movie screen in the garden area. One example is this week’s showing is F.W. Murnau's silent German classic Nosferatu. There is a live DJ Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 10 pm.

What we smoked: VR Unicos, Quai D’Orsay Gran Corona

Cigar Sanctuary Comments: We experienced an openness towards our smoking of cigars, by the staff and patrons alike. After a couple glasses of you favorite beverage and a fine puro, you might not want to leave at all.

Cigar Sanctuary Rating: Highly recommend. Great for sitdowns, weather permitting. Smoking is only permitted outdoors. Does not have a humidor. Plan accordingly.

It is a great spot, the owners got an offer they could not refuse. It's going to be turned into an Irish pub, believe it or not.

Lets see how long that lasts.
