Odd results to humidity experiment

Hey everyone,

I was just stuffing around yesterday with my hydrometer and decided to do a little experiment.

First I just placed my hydrometer on my bench to see what the rooms humidity was (55% RH).

I then grabbed one of my Tupperware containers (which was TOTALLY dry) and placed the hydrometer in there with no humidification device. I put the sealed Tupperware container with the hydrometer in my cupboard.

Eight hours later the humidity had increased to 67% RH with no humidification device!

Can anyone explain? :confused:

Its a digital Credo hydrometer (so very accurate) and I had no cigars in there. Just how stated in my first post.

Hmmm. I see nothing about cigars in the fist post. ;)

Also, A hydrometer is an instrument used to measure the specific gravity (or relative density) of liquids.

Hygrometers are instruments used for measuring humidity.

In any case, it is very interesting.
 
could be the tupperware being a closed enviroment reached a certain rh and held at that point. The room having a much larger volume of air read read lower it could have easly read higher. It's easier to control a smaller volume than a larger. The main reason that humidor's need a tight seal.
There are many here more informed than me. I'm sure you'll get your answer.
 
Yeah the tupperware container was very small. Im sure it has something to do with the amount of confined air/moisture.

Oh well it doesnt really matter anyway. It was just wierd.

Nah, got nothing to do with size, and everything to do with temperature. If you feel like another experiment, do the same exact thing as you did before, then take the tupperware out of the cabinet and set it on the bench. Ought to read the same as it did originally.
