OK, so Nibo's really are a pain in the rear!

Up till today I've had good success with my month or so old Nibo Space 6 dual jet lighter. Today I was lighting a second cigar, while outdoors but not windy, and it started acting up. Had to light it dozens of times to get the stogie started, was quite annoying. To make matters worse... I placed an order with AtlanticCigar.com yesterday and had a PB-207 in the cart since I'm finding I prefer a single flame as the dual is kinda wide and can singe the wrapper, not to mention burning more fuel. Well, I took the PB-207 out of the cart thinking, "Well... my Nibo is working fine... let me stop spending so much. I can deal with the dual jet for now." Then today's annoyance occured and I quickly called Atlantic to see if my order shipped yet figuring I could add it and save on shipping. Well... it already shipped :hn So, I placed another order for it and had to pay another $6 shipping - not a big deal of course but I feel stupid for not just getting it outright. The nice thing though is Atlantic includes a free can of Lava gas. Currently I've been using Ronson fuel - supposed to be triple refined.

Try to purge it and see what happens when you 'reload' - just turn the flame to its lowest setting, then with the tip of a small flat head screwdriver (or pretty much anything else), depress the filling nozzle on the bottom. At first, you will see some butane expel and freeze, but after, you will likely still hear some 'hissing' - keep the nozzle pressed until the hissing completely stops, then wait a few seconds and do it again, til there is no more hiss.

After, refill, allow the butane to settle, and see if that helps out. May or may not, but generally when I have gas in the tank and it 'no workies right' (technical term) this seems to get it back to 100%.

Keeps my Colibri going anyway :ss
 
Heh, yep I did that. When I purge I always make sure it's completely empty which, as you said, means bleeding it till there's no hiss several times, and making sure it doesn't light several times off any possible remaining gas. I've also adjusted the flame height, which initially made a dramatic improvement, but it's now acting up again. I'm gonna keep it as a backup once I get the PB-207.

Oh hey, can I ask you guys something... these butane lighters are touted as wind resistant. Well, if I light mine and gently blow on it the flame immediately goes out! Just a tiny gentle puff is all it takes. Is it just my lighter in particular or do all butanes go out with such a gentle puff of air?? If so, what is up with the "windproof" marketing campaign??

no lighter is windproof, but some are more resistan to wind than others. ive got a nibo triple jet that works ok, but if using it inside with the ac blowin on me, it tends to go out. my ronson jetlite (3 bucks a wallyworld) has no trouble at all lighting my cigarettes in my car with the top down and windows down at 75-80mph.
 
First thing I'd say is to ditch the Ronson fuel... Purge the Nibo and then fill it with the Lava fuel. :ss
 
I used to have trouble with my jet lighters until I got a free Colibri recently. The reason this one works well I believe is because of the adjustment knob it has. I have found that it works great after I refill it, then it will start to act up after several cigars. But since it has a real knob on it that doesn't require a screwdriver to adjust, I just turn up the fuel a little, and bingo, it's working great again. I continue to turn the fuel up as the tank empties and it works great until it's pretty much comletely empty. Not sure if this will help but I just wanted to mention it.

Yeah, I've read nothing but great things about those Ronson lighters, and they're like what... $6 or less? I checked around in my local stores and didn't find them so rather than order online and pay nearly the same price as the lighter for shipping I figured I'd go with the clear tank PB-207. It's great to be able to easily monitor the fuel level which I don't believe you can do with the Ronson? I was also looking at the $10 Blazer Zippo inserts but my wife can't find the Zippo I bought here years back (she quit smoking cigarettes) so I would've had to also buy a Zippo. So I just decided to stick with the PB-207 which seems to be rated as the most reliable cigar lighter. It's expensive though at $40! Luckily at least my order comes with a free can of Lava fuel.

Too bad I'm home sick today... the package will be sitting on my desk this afternoon.

Rev, the PB-207 is a very good lighter. I know some Wal-Marts do not carry the Ronson but usually most CVS stores do. Anyway now you know not to waste your money on the Nibo. :tu
