Over Humified

Need Advice

My stupid Le Veil stopped reading the humidity in my humidor, so before I noticed what it was doing the humidity in the humidor reached around 90 or so because the fan was running continuously.

So need suggestions on how to bring it down since I have heard that if you dry out cigars to fast you will split the wrapper.

So far what I have been doing is leaving the door open a crack for about an hour a day.

I also order heartfelt beads, and was told by Dave to just put them in dry until the humidity comes down to 65% and then add water.

Any other suggestions?

What is your ambient Rh? First thing is to check for mold. Put your calibrated hygrometer into on of your boxes and take a reading. Or remove about 20 singles and put them in a ziplock with your calibrated hygrometer and take a reading. Hopefully your smokes are not 90%, how do they feel? Yes, go slow and check often. You can probably open it all the way a few times a day and then crack it for a couple hours unless your outside rh is extremely low. :2

I had one of my Hydras freak out awhile back and it did the same thing.
It was in one of my winadors. I just turned the winador off and opened the door. (The house was around 65% anyways).
I left it open the best part of the day, took all my beads out and dried them out, and then replaced the beads and watched while they brought the RH down over the next few days.
I had no splitting or any other problems. Maybe because the cigars themselves hadn't had time to get real wet, who knows?

Basically what bobarian said. The important thing is to assess the damage and determining where the sticks are is the important piece of information. If you caught this fast enough they may not be high at all and if that is the case you should try and bring the humidor down much more aggressively. You don't want to leave a stick that is at 75 in an 85 humidor, right? You want to leave it in a 70ish and then bring it down from there slowly.
