Stopped at Target to get milk and bought a Vinotemp

I have a question. Do all of you folks who have a Vinotemp live in extremely hot climates? I live in central PA and I keep my house between 68 and 73 degrees all year around. The humidity varies, of course, but that's why I have a humidor. So why get a Vinotemp and spend all kinds of money getting to to look and function like a humidor, when you could buy any number humidors that are fine-looking pieces of furniture?

I'm having difficulty trying to keep this post from sounding condescending or negative because it is not. In fact, if you need temperature control, a Vinotemp seems to be the premier choice. Its just that I had never heard of anyone using them for cigars before I joined this board.

Thanks,
Steve

Edit--- By the way, $199 for a Vinotemp humidor in the post above seems out of the park when I have seen what some of you guys have done with a Vinotemp28.

You should have picked up another being this one will be filled by next week

Why I bought TWO last week!

Just checked our Target on Wednesday and they are still at $199.00....Great find :tu

$139 at Target out in Compton; I took down the last two and ran for my life. :D

Yep, I'm in L.A. and my office in the house was sitting at 75 - 85 (and up) where I keep the cigars so I was beginning to get very nervous.

I don't think it's just the temperature control.
For the price and capacity, it's kind of hard to beat the Vinotemp in terms of price.

Vinotemp - $150 (assuming you get it at a discount, otherwise $199).
A few shelves/trays - Assume you go with MtMouse's shelves/trays three of each ($35 x 3 + $18 x 3 = $159, round it up to $200 to account for shipping). That brings it to $250 minus the hygro/humidifier (which you have to get for normal humidors as well).

Compare this with something like the Montegue, which is probably comparable in terms of capacity with the Vinotemp. According to the CHIMP site, the average price of Montegue on CBid is around $350. Then toss in $185 for the shipping. So you're looking at $535 for a similar capacity humidor.

This is why people like the Vinotemp option. It's not only cost effective, but you also get the temperature control tossed in for "free". (You get the feeling that I've done the cost breakdown already? ) :)

Good post! I have a Monte, as you might have guessed from my icon. My BM ordered one for me so there was no shipping and I got it for around 5 bills. Your price breakdown makes a lot of sense. My wife, who has no problem with me smoking in the house, also thought the Monte was a nice addition to the TV lounge. The Vino probably would not have fit in to the decor so nicely, but at 2/3 the price, I could have put it in my office. Once I fill up the Monte (which probably isn't too far off), I'll probable get a Vino.

Can't get your temps in Southern California. My electric bill would be well over 5 bills a month in summer. Vinotemp is a definite for me. Keeps them safe and I feel better.

I knew I should have bought both of the ones left when I bought mine. Maybe in the far off future I will have enough $$$ to get another.

Ain't that what credit's for....oh craap, that's how we got into this global financial mess in the first place! :r

As I noted in another post, the Target in Summerville, SC has them on clearance for $99! Hell YES I bought one! :D:D:D:D

I just went to Target to check out their clearance section on video games.. and walked out with a Vinotemp :D

Nice pick up, got mine for the same price. :tu
