Evolving Lead Gorilla
Hello there.

I'm still a newbie, and i have a 100ct humidor that i bought of a fellow gorilla a while ago. Got one hell of a deal on it & has been treating me right ever since. HOWEVER thanks to all of you i need more space.

I'm thinking using a larger tupperware container. Don't really have the space or use for a big ass cooler just yet and & can get a rather large tupperware container from Target for about $5.

So my question is this:

I only need the tupperware, beads and a few slivers of cedar (to prevent mold) to make it work? Forgive me for such a stupid question but i've searched & there's tons of different posts on the topic at hand but nothing definitive...and quite frankly it all just seems too easy :r

I hear you have to open the tupperware at least once a week to let it "burp" to release built up gasses released????? is that true?
shouldn't be a problem b/c i plan on smoking at least once a week so it'll be opened more than that but just wondering how imperitive that was.

Thanks in advance
& i have all of you to blame for this :ss

You already filled that thing up!? :r I only have cooler experience. I would expect it to work about the same though. The only big difference in the two are insulation. You'll open it plenty. You won't be able to stand not checking your RH, and overall condition of those babies. If you have any cigar boxes around, that will take care of the Spanish Cedar issue. Just fill it up and move to the Big Cooler. :D

I used a large-ish tupperware type container from target for about a year with no problems. In it were cigars (both boxes and singles, although I had to be careful not to crush the singles), a little tupperware with wet foam oasis and 50-50 PG solution, and a hygrometer. Worked great.

Actually you can use just the tupperware and beads, cedar is optional it has nothing to do with mold.

And if you dont open it once a week your cigars will be fine as long as the temp and humidity are staying where they should.

Don't forget to put something to measure humidity in there (especially if you are storing quite a few in there). Since it is a sealed environment you don't have as much leeway as far as adding too much humidity. For instance, I use 65% beads in mine, but if I add too much water the humidity can get as high as 75% in the tupperdor. Once you get it right it'll be rock solid.

Ill be honest. I used a tupperdor when I was seasoning my humidor, I put my credo hydrometer and my xikar crystals in the tupperdor and it seemed to maintain the humidity much better than my humidor, which is really weird because my humidor has a fantastic seal with no leaks and it has been seasoned properly.

Although they look cheap I think tupperdors do a great job.
