Wireless Digital Hygrometer

Hello everyone once again. For those of you that read my coolerdor thread... I am newbie (didn't formally introduce myself yet...).

But basically I just started this hobby. I have already got 65% heartfelt beads, ordered some trays from cheaphumidors.com, and got my Coleman cooler...

I went out and bought a Radio Shack Wireless weather station. Placed it in the cooler and it works great. Except the price... Radio Shack had it for $40... I thought that this was the going rate for these things so I had no choice, and remember reading some threads where people recommended it.

But I just did a search on amazon and found a Honeywell wireless station, for half the price $20! It's the Honeywell TM005X. Here is th elink

http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-TM0...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1222282943&sr=8-1

So what do you guys think? Should I return the RS one and get this one instead? Any thoughts?

I think that you are OK with most of them as long as you salt test them and know aprox. how much it is off and what you need to compensate in terms of its RH being off. But I have seen people say they have that model.

One thing to consider is whether or not they're expandable. I'd recommend a system that supports at least two or three sensors. I have two humidors and a coolerdor. The ability to monitor all three from one station offers some very nice peace-of-mind.

I agree. The Radioshack one that I have is suposed to be expandable but I can not find any extra modules for sale anywhere. I think those things go for around $30 anyway which I might as well just buy another one..

so you think I should return the RS for this one and save some $$?

I am student so every little bit helps.

I've been very happy with my RS station and 3 satellite sensors. A couple of years ago, I found a good deal on an Oregon Scientific hygro/weather station at Target (I think) and bought it along with some OS sensors for back-up . When I accidentally broke one of the RS sensors, I discovered that the OS satellites were compatible with the RS station. They must operate on the same frequency, so now I use an RS station, 2 RS satellites and 1 OS satellite. :tu That said, you might want to look for good deal on OS products to use with your RS unit.
