Zombie anyone?

Darrell

C is for cookie
Zombie (1950 – from a self-published book by a good friend of Don’s the beachcomber (the man who created the Zombie) who solicited recipes from his celebrity pals – Don signed this recipe as his own)

1 ounce freshly-squeezed lime juice
1 ounce freshly-squeezed lemon juice
1 ounce unsweetened pineapple juice
1 ounce white Puerto Rican rum (anything but Bacardi Silver)
1 ounce gold Puerto Rican rum
1 ounce 151-proof Demerara rum
1 ounce passionfruit syrup (I use Monin’s and it’s fine)
1 teaspoon brown sugar
Dash Angostura bitters

Dissolve the brown sugar in the lime juice then place in a cocktail shaker with all other ingredients and lots of crushed ice. Shake thoroughly and pour into a tall glass; garnish with a mint sprig and a long straw.

I'm looking forward to you making me one of those when I get back.

I don't need alcohol...it just really helps with the shakes.

As a bit of a Tiki nerd, I can vouch for Don the Beachcomber and his recipes. The best Zombie I ever had was at Trader Vic's. Pricey, but mind-numbingly worth it.

The hard part is finding the Demerara 151. Last time I was in CA I grabbed a bottle of 80 proof Lemon Hart, but passed on the high test. Haven't seen it anywhere since.
