As you can see from my DOH post, the guys at UPS saw to it that my Fresh Roast 8 arrived in about 6 pieces instead of three. Having ten pounds of green beans in the house and roaster is akin to having a box of nicely aged Siglo IVs and nothing to light it with. I just could not wait until Monday. So I bought myself a match!!! Big Lots had the Toastmaster Popcorn Popper for $8 and is close to work, so I snagged one.
I roasted my first batch, Peru Organic. But I put a few too many beans in. I also needed to stir it a little better early on. So a few beans got brown very quickly while everything else was Green. I also thought I let it go a little too far. It was dark brown to almost black. It smelled kind of charred. Once the beans cooled down a bit, I brewed a few cups of it and it was not that bad. Not the best cup I have had, but not the Charcoal water I was half expecting.
The second batch went much better. I used 1/3 instead of 1/2 cup. I kept the beans moving until the air from the popper did it's job. I stopped it earlier this time and think I got about a city + roast.
I was going to throw away the first batch but after a couple of hours rest, the smell was a lot better. I am looking forward to tasting both blends again in the morning.
