View Full Version : My Bad Golf Swing
Master of Disaster

Any golf experts out there?
Take a look at this video I shot yesterday:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sVyGhKOFD0
And please tell me what my fatal flaws are.
My biggest problems: hitting the ball VERY high, weak, and to the right. I hit a 5 iron as high (and as far) as most people hit a sand wedge.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Chris

When you hit your 7-iron your swing plane was low. Compare the difference in swing plane with your 7-iron and hybrid 4. Is the club face open? If you have a low swing plane with an open club face it may cause you to just pop the ball up weakly. When I chip or hit out of the sand I open up my club face to just pop the ball up and land softly:2. Good luck:tu

Alright, first off your swing isnt really that bad. Your biggest problem I can see from your ball striking is you make a huge I really huge weight shift. Really its too big, it becomes a timing thing and even the pros have problem with that. Two you over swing all your clubs on the video. Its also really hard to tell without seeing the ball flight on what seems to be the good shots you. However with the shanks you made it also seems that the ball to is too close to your body, with your shallow swing plane (a good thing) your take away is lower then your return. You have to clear your hips to make room for the club causing you to shank your shot.. I would look that you go 60/40 weight to the left foot and keeping it there thru the entire swing, that will cause two things you too take a shorter back swing and limit your weight shift. This will lead to solid contact and better shots.. Hope this helps..
Goodluck

You have a good swing bro..You do however over swing and come past parallel at the top every time causing your timing to be off on your down swing and too much lag and the ball goes right..Coming through the ball, it seems you may be a little handsy. Meaning, You break your wrist quickly and prolly making your ball flight high.Thats what im seeing..I would concentrate on the back swing more and not going past parallel. Your take away is low but not that bad and your on a good plane..:2

:tpd::tpd: both havana lover and rock star. A shorter back swing will help tremendously with your timing. Almost all of the pros are 90 degrees at the top. http://www.paulwilsongolf.com/tiger_1.htm
On your shank of the hybrid you are SIGNIFICANTLY closer to the ball. Here's a tip when you set up to the ball and are ready to swing take your right hand off the club and let it hang loosely. With your fingers together extend your thumb (pointing towards the club). Try and pass your right hand through your left side (basically under your club). That is enough clearance. I believe the rule of thumb would be to have the butt of the club anywhere from 4-6 inches away from the body. Shorter clubs being closer. Do this every time and you will be consistently the same distance from the ball.

So far, I agree with everything said above. I do have a couple questions.
1. How long have you been playing?
2. Are these issues new?
If possible, I would suggest that you get an introduction lesson from a PGA Professional. I had an issue with my swing about a year ago that I just could not figure out. I was at a local golf store (Golf Galaxy) one day and talked with the teaching pro. He signed me up for an intro lesson (30 minutes for $30). He immediately indentifed my problem and gave me a couple drills and swing thoughts. I have been playing the best golf of my life since then.
Good Luck.

Additionally: Smoke more cigars on the course and driving range, it will take your mind off on negative swing thoughts.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it but it looks as though you are leaving the club face open. That would cause the slice.I used to have a wicked slice and could put an 8 degree driver higher then a lob wedge off the deck, way to much hitting under the ball, would soar it high and take away much much much distance. Worked on the things people said above, draw back, weight shift, and distance from ball. With the slice I was just opening up the club face alot,I did one drill that helped a bit. Next time you go to the driving range, hold a towl under your right armpit, hit balls. It shouldm't fall out, should be able to keep it held throughout swing,if it falls you are seperating your arm from your body, thus causing the club face to open up.

Damn you guys are good. His swing looks 10x better than mine and I'm kindof happy with my game (about a 20 handicap).
I'm going to have to put up some video and see what you guys think.
Sorry to thread jack.
I watched the video before I read the responses and only had 2 thoughts. You over swing in the back swing, and your swing plane is shallow. I never thought the second was a good thing, but I will defer to the much lower handicappers preceding me.
