Well, here goes nothing. Review #1: Punch Grand Cru Punchito!
OK, many people here will have read SVilleKid's review of the regular Punch he experienced some dissapointment with... My friend, I think you should try one of these.
The look of the cigar was, well... it's a perfecto and it's 4 inches long. Looked kinda like some weird, freaky-deaky GM Root Ginger. No :bs. It didn't smell like ginger, had a wonderful piquant aroma pre-light, sweet but with a bit of a kick. I cut it, as always out of fumbling ineptitude rather than desire, with a dickman cut. The pre light draw was tight, but I figure this is pretty normal for this type of vitola. The first draw as I lit this was smoother than expected, although still bitter and bit harsh. As the burn widened with the cigar, there were some burn problems, but it is a prtty sharp rise in size, so again, I was somewhat expecting this would happen.
Then, we opened up into the full width... the smoke became much smoother, with a leathery, creamy smoke, nice and cool. I read a review where the guy said he even removed the band and carried on smoking it, it was that good. Glad he decided to make it past halfway on this cigar (yes, it's that short the band finishes about half way down the cigar). So, with this smoke nearing the halfway mark, I'm starting to think this is gonna be a good, mild-med cigar, going great for this time of day... leather, cream, maybe a bit of wood. And then more wood and some spice. At the half way mark, the flavour changed. Gone was the leather, in was the sweet spice I smelt at the pre-light stage... mmmm.... I believe the common Jungle phrase is Nummy. This baby got sweet and spicy, with a bit of wood and cream in the background for good measure. I will have to seek out some more of these I think just to make sure!
All in al, don't let these catch you un awares!
