Lets keep all the talk in this thread, have a month to banter back and forth, cant wait. I know some fans might be upset with the outcome of the BCS rankings, I am all for the playoff system if that comes about. But tonight Im doing the chicken dance all the way to the Superdome baby :chk:chk:chk

I can't wait for the naysayers to start the caterwauling about how unfair it is for a team that didn't win its division or conference to be left out. And then there are the anti-LSU fans (I'm not mentioning any names boone*&^%$) who will have another thread in which to bemoan the fact that Les Miles is still the LSU coach.

The Dome may be a little smaller on capacity but the roof helps hold the noise in. It will be loud.

The Dome actually dissipates noise better, believe it or not. It has anechoic tiling all over to absorb noise. LSU is open air, which is why on a night game, with the barometric pressure overhead, Death Valley is slightly louder.

Regardless, this will be an amazing game.

If LSU can prevent the usual 100+ penalty yardage, I see them winning by at least a touchdown. If not, this could set the stage for a struggling loss by LSU.

Either way,

GEAUX TIGERS!

Have been a Big Ten fan all my life, so I'll have to swing behind Ohio State for this one. I know that they were pummeled last year by Florida, but hopefully it will be a better game this year.

As far as who got to go and who didn't, until a playoff system comes (like Div 1-AA) there will always be controversy about who gets which BCS game. As long as there is millions upon millions of dollars offered by the bowl system, I don't forsee any changes. I was hoping this year to see a West Virginia/Missouri championship just for something different.

I'm thinking it will be a low scoring affair this time. OSU has a very good defense and so does LSU (except for 2 blips on the radar). I'm just looking for a nice competitive game. After the wacky year I don't want to see a bunch of blowouts.:tu

I've heard from some of my sources that he will definatly be LEAVING next year to go to Michigan. BUT, you cannot tell your team that especially going into big games. There can't even be a hint of doubt in his team...essentially, he is telling people what they need to hear right now to finish the season.

I'm not so sure Michigan would take him after what happened Saturday. There were those in the program against Miles even before Saturday, now there are even more. But who knows, this season has been insane.

Allstate BCS National Championship
New Orleans, Louisiana
January 7, 8:00 p.m. ET
LSU Tigers versus Ohio State Buckeyes

Of all the storylines and subplots that will surround this game between now and January 7, the most interesting may be the matchup between Jim Tressel and Les Miles. Scholarly and unassuming, Tressel is the better coach by any standard save recruiting prowess. Arrogant, brash and widely disliked even among LSU fans, Miles is dying to earn a championship ring to quiet the critics who mock his strategic ineptitude. Miles not only has his shot, but is the unanimous favorite. That's due in no small part to Miles' aforementioned recruiting prowess, as well as that of his predecessor, Nick Saban. The Tigers ooze talent and athleticism at every position. That's less true of Ohio State, but while the raw materials may be a slightly lower grade, the finished product is basically the same. Both offenses are run-first units, but not without solid balance in the passing game. The defenses are even better, and both feature tons of NFL talent, including near-household names like LSU's Glenn Dorsey and OSU's James Laurinaitis. LSU has the slightly better offense, Ohio State the slightly better defense. The Buckeyes' superior pass rush provides an edge against LSU's shaky protection. LSU is also the second-most penalized team in the nation, while the Buckeyes draw few flags. The Tigers get to play in the Superdome. And on and on. Every fundamental and statistical matchup and detail will be dissected between now and kickoff, claiming dozens of slight advantages for each side. In the end, no one will uncover an edge that can be safely considered significant.

The underdog actually looks like the slightly better team on paper, but there's a legitimate argument that the Buckeyes have played a slightly softer schedule. As with nearly all national title games, these teams are evenly matched. If both teams play at the same level, it will be a stalemate that's too close to call. Usually that means the game will be won by the minds as much as the bodies. Both teams obviously want a win, but who wants it enough to sweat and bleed for it, not just during the game but every waking moment between now and then? The stakes for LSU are high. A second national title in five years could mean that the Tigers supplant USC as the most dominant team of the decade. For Ohio State, the stakes are even higher. The Buckeyes are playing for the respect of the nation, respect that would already have been granted to most programs with 55 wins, a national title and four BCS appearances in the previous five years. For many fans, though, the Buckeyes' embarrassment at the hands of Florida last year simply confirmed their long-held conviction that Ohio State isn't any good, that the Big Ten isn't any good, and that football players from the North are fat and slow. Nationally, Ohio State will be considered inferior to LSU, Florida, USC, Oklahoma and any warm-weather team having a great year until the Buckeyes beat a highly-regarded SEC team in a big-time bowl. The Buckeyes are well aware of this. This is more than a big-time bowl. It's the national championship, and LSU is the perfect opponent. For the Buckeyes players and coaches, this game is more than an opportunity to win a national title. It's an opportunity to erase the effects of the worst day of their lives. A chance at national-title redemption doesn't come around very often for a given group of players, and when it does those players usually perform in a way that reminds us that atonement is a powerful motivator. Remember Florida's dismantling of Florida State the year after the Tommie Frazier beatdown? Ohio State will play the very best game it can possibly play. That will be more than enough to win. Ohio State 24-9

If Ohio State was confident in themselves, they should consider themselves the dominant team since they are ranked #1 going into the game. Don't ya think? I'd much rather see LSU as the underdog in this game. You've seen what they've done this season... chased down the #1 spot two times already this season. I think they are more than capable of doing it again.

Doesn't that defeat your own argument? In two sentences, you say that we should be confident and consider ourselves the dominant team, then immediately hope for your team to be the underdog. Shouldn't LSU be confident in themselves too?

The #1 ranking is meaningless this year...as crazy as college football has been, the #1 vs. #2 ranking means very little.

Time to bring this back to life. One week from today. I'll start off saying that, I'll limit the trash talking to a minimum.......ahhhh who am I kidding.

I'll start by asking two questions. If LSU is so damn lucky to be in the game, how is it that we are favored to win.

How is the #1 team with one loss the underdog to a two loss lucky team.

Because all the pundits are in love with the SEC. The game is practically a home game for LSU. For some reason, losing a game in overtime, no matter how many, is better than losing it in regulation (if you're that damn good, you shouldn't have to go into overtime).
I like OSU being the underdog. Last year they were number one all year and going into the championship game they were over-confident. This year they are just sitting back with nothing to lose. That is why you should be worried.

Well. let's see................

Ten SEC teams out of twelve were bowl eligible this year, and nine got bowl bids. That percentage beats all other conferences. Eight of the nine games played to date, with an SEC record of 6 wins, 2 loses, with ONLY the Arkansas game a run-away against the SEC, and the Georgia smackdown of Hawaii in the mix. After the final SEC game, and a 7 win, 2 loss record, maybe there will be something there to point to a reason the pundits like the SEC!?!

LSU by at least 10 points.

Nice back and forth game so far!!! Like a heavyweight fight. One tem hits a bit punch, the other fires back with multiple combinations. It's the beggining of the forth round and seems LSU has gathered some momentum.

Ok, so as a Buckeye fan, my :2 ...

Last year was a shock to us all. I still can't believe Florida beat us as badly as they did. Yes, the SEC rules all, at least that what most of my SEC friends want to hear. :D This year I would have been happy if we were in the top 20. We lost our offense and defense last year. It was sure to be one of those proverbial "rebuilding years." Then, this season started and the Big 10 sucked. big time. We won our games and ended up in the national championship game. Then we got beat. Yes, we got beat. bad. The stupid personal fouls we deserved didn't help, but we got beat. Congrats LSU!

So, this season has converted me ... the BCS sucks. We need a playoff.

To all my SEC B/SOTL: Yes, as of late the SEC has dominated college football and is, currently, the best conference. However, if we are talking about the history of college football, doesn't the Big 10 deserve some respect? I know, I know ... "but, Dakotan, shouldn't we live in the present?" Yes, we should, which is why I concede that the SEC is the best conference currently. However, if we say that the SEC is the best conference ever, shouldn't we look to the history of college football? Also, how would we determine who is the best conference? national championships?

Again, congrats LSU!!

Right. I forgot to reply to this. I hate listening to the analysts because, to make for a good show, they need to have disagreement. I really don't think they agree. They just need controversy. You know, to get the other team's fans mad ... which is why we keep watching. And it works!! :tu

Police arrest 15, respond to fires after Buckeyes lose in title game
January 8, 2008

AP - Jan 8, 12:27 am EST
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Fifteen people were arrested and several fires set around the Ohio State campus after the Buckeyes lost to LSU in the BCS championship game Monday night.

Most of the arrests were on charges of disorderly conduct or resisting arrest, though two were expected to be charged by arson investigations after trash bins were sit on fire, police spokeswoman Amanda Ford said Tuesday. Between 10 and 12 fires were reported.

What would they have done in they had won?

But you have to realize that USC is always #1 in the hearts and minds of the media. I'm just surprised Notre Dame isn't listed as #2.
