Friends,

This is only the second cigar review I have ever written. The first was quite a few years ago and it has been lost from some site failure that happened a few year ago. I posted more regular back in those days but after that I kind of lost interest. I reviewed a Punch RS #12 after a bad day at the horse race track in Arlington Heights.

Now I live in Cornelius NC. It’s a nice little lake town. Beautiful boats and wonderful people. I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.

I’ve been reading these boards for a long time. So many people have been raving over these Anejo’s that I had to pick one up. I’m not sure what the size is but I expect it is about a 46 ring gauge and 5 inches long. You can see a pic of it in the thread called "Show off your latest NC purchase."

This is the first NC that I have purchased in years. I only smoke ISOM’s. Specifically the Punch RS #12. That Punch is absolutely my favorite cigar on the planet.

This Anejo’s was probably 98% as good as an RS #12 that has been aged 1 year. I just purchased it last night. I asked my B@M how long he had it. He said he just got them at the end of last week.

I fired it up with a Ronson Jetlite and it was good to go from the start. I got a good light and it burned even from start to finish. This is a cigar that you don’t have to dress up for. Do you know what I mean? It’s a cigar that YOU smoke. Not a cigar that smokes you.

I always like to let my gf try out the cigar I’m smoking. She’s smoked quite a few Cubans and expensive cigars that she thought were dog rockets. She doesn’t ever like cigars. This is the only one she ever held for more than a few seconds. She liked it. I loved it. I would be surprised if you didn’t love it.

I’ve had a lot of Bolivars and Cohibas that I paid a lot of money for. I just felt like they were smoking me. I hate that. I want a cigar that I can smoke and I can just be me regardless of the situation. This cigar is available at and my local cigar store.

If you ever happen upon one, please spend the $8 and buy it. If you hate it, send me a PM and tell me how wrong I was. I’m going to the store tomorrow to purchase a half a dozen more. I’ll try to let a couple sit for a year. I have no idea how good they could be in 12 months. It will be a 2008 Christmas gift to myself.

I hope you are all doing well. Happy smoking. What a great time to be alive.

Your friend,

Chris

Thanks for the review. Most people love these ceegars. You had a number 46, which also corresponds with the Ring Gauge.

Most rave about the shark, but I prefer the #50. All are good though.

Thanks for the review Chris. Did you pick it up at McCranies? I just grabbed my first Anejo from there today, but haven't had a chance to smoke it yet.

I did pick it up at McCranies. It was the first time I've been there. They didn't seem overly concerned with me but they had what I needed. You may as well fire one up. It will give you an excuse to purchase more.

Due to the "Great Anejo Mold Scare" I smoked my second ever Anejo - and I guess first "official" one since the first was the Cameroon wrapped shark I got from Holt's. My #46 had been in my humi for about 7 months and there were a couple of mold spots under the cedar yesterday when I checked it. I brushed them off and decided it was as good a time as any to smoke it.

I now understand what all the fuss is about.

This was one of the best, and strongest, cigars I have ever smoked. I have smoked the LFD DL Chisel with no discernible effects; but this Anejo was in a different class. Strong and flavorful from the get go with a great deal of sweetness from that infamous wrapper. There was lots of cinnamon and sweet flavor that kind of reminded me of an Atomic Fireball candy wrapped in leather and cedar.

I was drinking a cherry Coke Zero that complemented this smoke very well.

The only problem is - now I want more and will have to begin hunting with the other Anejo whores. I guess there are worse problems I could have though right? :ss

Great review. I haven't had an Anejo that I didn't like. Granted I haven't had all the vitolas but the ones I have were great. Mold is an issue, even in my limited experience with them. Worth it though. IMHO.

I just set back a box of #46's because this years Anejo's seemed to be smoking great! Anyways I love the size of these and they have tons of flavor. Thanks for the review.

anejos i prefer fresh, opus aged-not saying this to discourage you, of course YMMV & you'll only find out by trying-for me they lose the "balls" they have & i don't notice a benefit to the flavor

Have had the pleasure of smoking several Anejo's. #77 Shark is at the top of my list. It just grabs you and never let's go. Do suggest a meal for the new smoker or someone not used to a strong cigar. Suggest anyone who enjoy's a full bodied cigar to grab any Anejo! You just can't go wrong.

Nice review. They are great cigars. I am torn between those and the King Bs.
