I have always picked a dark beer or bourbon to go with my cigars. To change things up a bit, I would like to know if anyone can reccommend a good full bodied wine. I've heard port wines are the fullest.

Port is a fortified wine, usually 18-21% alcohol. Excellent with a smoke it really brings out some of the nuances in a good smoke. Vintage ports can get very, very expensive. Start out with a non vintage blend(no date on label), they are usually a bit smoother and nuttier. Vintage ports have more character but usually its better to work your way up to the big leagues(just like cigars, I think most would not recommend and Anejo as a first smoke!)

There are two types of ports, Ruby and Tawny. And all true Ports can only come from Portugal. Ruby port is more full bodied but should be decanted carefully as they are sometimes gritty at the bottom of the bottle.(never shake a Ruby or let it settle for several hours before decanting) Decanting exposes the port to oxygen and helps it develop its flavors. Tawny ports can be poured straight from the bottle.

If you live near a Trader Joe's they have a very nice port called Morgado. Nutty, creamy great with a smoke. Best of all its only $5.99 a bottle, better than many $15-20 bottles out there!

For wine, try a Oregon Pinot from 06, most are very good. Nice and fruity.
Something more full bodied? A Napa Valley Cabernet, $15 and up to as much as you want to spend! Enjoy!

You know wine ;)

Iīm no connoseur but I agree with you on all aspects. I Used to enjoy port with a cigar but since have turned to matured red wine as heartwarmer. Tawny Portīs I used to enjoy included; Real Companhia Velha and Ferreira. If you can get a hold of any of these 2 bottles try them.

Mature Red Wine that I really enjoy right now is a Douro (Oporto) wine called Odre, or almost anything from Alentejo. Pinokio could give you some great pointers on wines, I learnt most of what I know from him. Pm him, you wont go wrong. :D

As for wine choices for a cigar...

My first pick for a cigar would be a Bual or Malmsey Madeira; they are the most historically traditional wines to serve with cigars.

The Rare Wine Company "Boston Bual" is an outstanding pairing with a cigar.

For something sweeter, try Sandeman 20 Year Tawny.

For Wine, any basic Burgundy is nice or a fuller Rhone wine like Gigondas is fun with cigars (both by themselves are nice.)

If you are in Portugal, you must be a tawny or colheita drinker. I recently had the '52 Dalva White Colheita that was the best port I have ever had.

As for Tawny port, Ferriera and Ramos Pinto are also great brands.
