There was review done on this cigar back in '02 but it was very brief without much information.

First off, this is a very short (in size) cigar and a perfecto shape. The craftsmanship is perfect. By the way, this is the maduro version (I have heard some say the natural is not as good). Although lacking in length, this is a heavy cigar packed with leaf. Cigar will burn for over an hour – very slow burn. The construction is excellent – I think you could toss this thing around like a football and the wrapper would not unravel.

Cost – on the expensive side (I guess depending on your view) for a cigar of this size. But like I said, excellent construction and long burning. I’ve seen boxes for a bit over $100 to $145.

Excellent burn – no touch ups. Ash is long and fairly white – it is certainly a stark contrast to the dark maduro wrapper. Also, note with the burn, I smoked a couple of these on a fairly windy day on the beach and still no problems.

Taste – very smooth cigar and a great flavor. I have trouble picking out individuals flavors (ie anise, hickory) but this certainly is not bland. I would consider it a medium bodied cigar.

Highly recommend, if for nothing else to smoke a cigar of such craftsmanship. As soon as you look at and feel this cigar – you know that it took a talented torcedor to produce it. Anyone asking for a spirit to accompany this would be asking the wrong person because you would always get the same answer from me: any highland single malt.

Great review! I really like the El Jocko as well. The #2 Natural is not as good as the #1 maduro as you have heard. It makes a great morning smoke; it isn't as in your face as LfD's Ligero series but they are still very flavorful to complement a mug o' joe.

Like you I just wish they weren't soo expensive; similar perfectos from Cuaba (Divinos) can even be found for less money; (you just won't get a maduro). However if you compare the LfD El Jocko to its closest competition an AF Short Story, its cheaper and IMO, better.

I just learned about this cigar today when I went to the local B&M looking for an AF Short Story. Of course, I learned about it after I picked up a Puros Indios Viejo but I'm curious to try these. Anyone had one recently?

I had a PI Viejo that tasted like air...
Probably not what you were hoping to hear.

Jeff sent me a few of these El Jockos and I like them too - good size for when I walk the dog, and I love the shape. I like the taste of the natural DLs better but they're not really the same other than the brand (doesn't make that much sense to directly compare them)...

The one I had today was a medium smoke packed with flavor. Hmmm... For a comparison I'd have to say it was similar to a Padron 3000. Thanks for the info.

I love the El Jocko but prefer the natural wrapper - it's like a little slice of heaven and it's in my mouth.

Finally got around to one (of two) purchased I don't know where or when - a while ago. Not at all strong, but populated with hints of light cedar and pleasing aroma.

Not a must have - but a nice have.

My very first box purchase, made just a few weeks ago, was a box of El Jocko naturals. I am smoking 4-5 per week so it just made sense as I got 15% off.
