Kinda odd..? I have no clue. I know depending on how strong the cigar I'm smoking is, sometimes I'll get some sorta reflux/chest issue. At those times I wished it was just hiccups! :D

The cause with hiccups in general is too much O2 in your blood stream. That's why fixes like breathing into a bag or holding your breath can get rid of them, by replacing some of the oxygen with CO2. I read once that nicotine raises the heart rate and that can hyperoxygenate the blood.

Maybe you shouldn't come up for air during the smoke, just all smoke, all the time. :r jk

Yea, I've heard of this happening to several folks. But that could have just been the amount of beer consumed too?.... :r

When I get the hiccups I usually can just put them out of my mind and they go away after two or three... No, wait......that's the wife....Oh never mind!!

Not with a cigar, but whenever I smoke my pipe I get the hiccups about 1/2 way through. Almost every time.

don't know why it would happen, but I do have a strange cure for hiccups:
eat a dab of peanut butter. works every time.

Jeff, I get the hiccups almost every time at the end of a cigar, almost always on the last draw from it. Weird. No none cure except to quit breathing all together.

Thats Pick me ups. And only when on extended mission. :D

Nicorette does it to me occasionally. I chew it except when smoking.

It's happened to me on an infrequet occassion.
I usually slow down on the smoking then take seven gulps of water in a single breath (which is my cure for hiccups), and that takes care of it.

Eat a teaspoon of sugar. It cures hiccups immediately. Try it, it works! :2

I thought I was the only one that got hiccups from cigars. It happens about one out of every 5 cigars I smoke, always towards the end, and usually with stronger cigars. :2

Funny, sometimes a spicier cigar will give me hiccups too, but only at the very beginning rather than the end. I guess it will take a greater mind than mine (not hard to find) to figure out the cause, rather than just the cure.

I've always understood this as a symptom of nicotine overdose. This happened to me when I was chomping too fast on a piece of nicorette ... or when I had more than 1 or 2 pieces in my mouth .... or when I had a piece in my mouth and was smoking a cigarette. ... heh

I think we are more curious about the cause than the cure Jeremy....but I will go buy some Saltines anyway. ;)

The nicotine overdose might be true for some, but for me I get them right at the beginning of the cigar. Maybe I'm just a douche bag.....

I used to get em when I first started smoking cigars. My brother told me I was drawing and puffing too fast. I wasn't taking in enough air between draws, and I would hiccup.

k..some info

Hiccups Causes

Many conditions are associated with hiccups, but none has been shown to be the cause of hiccups.

* If you eat too fast, you can swallow air along with your food and end up with a case of the hiccups.

* Any other practices that might irritate the diaphragm such as eating too much (especially fatty foods) or drinking too much (drunk people hiccup) can make you prone to having hiccups.

* In these instances, your stomach, which sits underneath and adjacent to the diaphragm, is distended or stretched. Because they occur in relation to eating and drinking, hiccups are sometimes thought to be a reflex to protect you from choking.

Copied from http://www.drugs.com/nicotine.html

• To use the chewing gum:
· Each piece of gum should be chewed slowly and several times. Stop chewing when you notice a tingling sensation or a peppery taste in your mouth (usually after about 15 chews). "Park" the gum between your cheek and gum and leave it there until the taste or tinging sensation is almost gone. Then slowly chew a few more times until the taste or sensation returns. Park the gum again in a different place in your mouth. Continue this chewing and parking process until the taste or tingle no longer returns when the gum is chewed, usually 30 minutes.
· Chewing too much or too quickly will cause too much nicotine to be released and can cause nausea, hiccups, and stomach problems.
· Do not eat or drink for 15 minutes before chewing nicotine gum or while you are chewing the gum.
· Do not chew more of the gum than is directed in the package directions.

Sounds like an allergic reaction. I guess you should cure yourself and send me all your goods! HeHe, sorry couldn't resist and I can't believe nobody beat me to the punch.:D:hn I myself have never experience this but every now and than after a smoke I will get a feeling that reminds me if indegestion which sucks but would much rather have than the hiccups because when I get the hiccups they last for what feels like 9 years know matter what I try. I will have to give the peanut butter trick a try. Hey you think a Reeses will work too?:D

I've never gotten the hiccups from smoking but I have had some that kicked my butt and made me sick.. happened with a RASS twice... sometimes I get nauseous but I eat a piece of candy and it goes away. Sugar seems to be something I always have around me just in case.

Thanks for resurrecting this thread. I have often wondered about this. For me, it only happens when I smoke a Dominican cigar.

Yeah, I know that weird.
