First, I have to say that I tend to lean toward maduros, darker the better. So, I was in my local shop the other day and looked down at the "new" area and staring back up at me was a super dark, shiny new cigar called JAVA. Now, I'm not a real fan of the flavored cigars, but after picking this one up and taking a good whiff, I was very intrigued. The cigar smelled so sweet and chocolately (mocha-ish) I found myself almost about to take a bit right there in the shop!
I picked up the Robusto (buddy picked up the Corona) and we hurried home to give 'em a try. Well, the pre-light aroma carried through to the taste...very sweet and chocolately. Some good coffee/mocha undertones. Even the smoke smelled sweet (according to our wives). Ash was a very nice, bright white which contrasted well against the dark wrapper of the JAVA.
Well, this stogie would have been perfect if it was about 1.5 inches long. Anything longer than that becomes just too much sweetness. Those of you from the south may be familiar with a dessert called "mississippi mud"...this cigar could rival a plate full of mud as an after dinner dessert. I had to stop a little more than halfway through. Too much of a good thing...
I'm sure I'll give it a try again someday...might cut one in half and see what that does for me. Overall, if you are in the mood for something sweet that leaves a good chocolately after taste, then give this one a try.
