I do enjoy it. I'm a fan of most sports and this is another fine one for me to watch. I don't get to see much of it on TV unless I subscribed to a satellite service which I don't have.

The England game was a shocker.

If S&M get a win and a draw in their last two, they should win the group. With an away match at Lithuania and then home against Bosnia, that should be attainable.

England are in trouble. They need help from Wales (to beat Poland IN Poland), and they need to beat Austria in order for the final match between England and Poland to have meaning.

Great win by the US over Mexico. Even to the disgust of some of the people over for a college football bar b q, we had a tv on that game.

pnoon, I watched the first half of the Liverpool and ManU match. It was a very good first half, very fast game with some good chances, was the second half like the first? That Chelsea is tough to beat. They are playing some slow tempo and not so great soccer, but it's winning games.

I think Chelsea is still the team to beat.
As for my boys from Liverpool, they need to score goals (Michael Owen may have helped JUST a little) In games versus Middlesboro, Sunderland, Tottenham and Man U they have scored 1 stinking goal. Granted they have not allowed a goal but you will not go far in the EPL scoring only one goal in 4 games. O.K. ranting over.
Well, maybe just one more. I subscribe to digital cable and get Fox Soccer Channel. They did not show the Liverpool vs. Man U. match.
Go figure.

They are nuts not to show that game. We had it on a regular sports channel.

I don't think Fernando Morientes, even though he is injured now is going to do too great. What is with Baros? That guy played like a maniac for the Czech Republic and I saw some great goals last year that he scored.

Liverpool let him go. Baros now plays for Aston Villa.
It could be a LONG year :al

Jeff,
I'm not necessarily a fan of Bolton but I am a BIG fan of the English Premier League - of which Bolton is a part. If it were me, I would jump at the chance to go to a match.

To the few football fans out there - What is a good site for news? Where do you go for your fix? I cannot stand the ESPN site since it has been redone. I follow both Serie A and Premier League.

Note to Liverpool - the object of the game is to score more goals than your opponent not the same number. :hn

Jeff,

Here are a couple I use:
http://www.soccer365.com/ I use this one the most
http://www.4thegame.com/ This is exclusively for the EPL

As for Liverpool, do ya think they just MIGHT be able to use the talent of Michael Owen about now! Sheesh. I'm amazed they didn't re-sign him when he left Real Madrid. :sb :sb

What teams do you like most?

Thanks! They could use Owen, Baros, anyone. They needed some signings before that transfer window closed and got nothing. BTW - they should have won this week - I forget his name right now (the tall striker) missed some excellent chances with his head.

I'll root for two teams - Liverpool and Roma. I think it could be a long year.

mostly I've been relying on the yahoo network for all my news. I get next to no tv coverage except if I want to see a game on Telemundo, and I don't know spanish. ESPN does cover some of the world cup games, so I can't wait until Oct. 8.

His name is Peter Crouch. £7,000,000 transfer from Southampton. I was not impressed with his play. You are right - he missed some chances that should have been goals.

You are right. It will be a LONG season.

So, what are your favorite team(s) and leagues?

Check out your cable provider's digital lineup. I get Fox Soccer Channel on a digital sports package and it's only about $7 more a month. While not entirely soccer, FSC has a ton of soccer programming (games, highlight shows and news) from just about everywhere.

I've been following the Bundesliga in germany ever since I was taking german in college years ago, there we had a student who had a massive satellite dish. I have seen them on TV once since, that was a good time, and even planned a whole day around it. Bayern Munich is the team I watch for.

UK teams are a bit of a draw for me. I love watching the games but I'm not really passionate about any of them.

OK... Liverpool & Micheal Owen...
He didn't 'leave' real madrid, he was still under contract and they sold him. Liverpool and Real had meetings, and liverpool offered the £7m that Real had paid for him, considering he'd not had much first team play.
Some t*&t at Newcastle stepped up and offered the £17m Real had thought would be too restrictive for and possible offer. The bosses at Real musta smoked hella cigars that day. Owen wanted first team football cos it's a WC season, so he had no choice but to go where he was sold, he even said himself he wanted to go to Anfield, but Real followed their wallets, and not their players wishes.

Other than that... selling Baros to Villa... I don't think anyone thought Newcastle were gonna stump up for Owen, so they sold him thinking Owen would be there.

Let's all give the Lord of Frodsham a bit of encouragement and then we'll all be chanting Cisse's name :D And Crouch the Yeti motherf**ker needs some more confidence... face-planting balls at goal is something he needs to work on... and everyone on the team needs to remember he's 2' taller than them.

Well said, Lumpy.
When I mentioned Owen "left" Real, I meant it in the generic sense. I was not up on all the details as you are. In any professional sport, $$$$ rules and Newcastle were desperate. Too bad for Liverpool. Can you IMAGINE what the team would be like if Gerrard had gone elsewhere? Probably chasing Everton again.
As for "Crouch the Yeti motherf**ker", :r :r
Cisse has flashes of brilliance - if he could only stay healthy and crack the starting 11.

Interesting fact: My girlfriends brother (Die hard red, scouser born and bred) has money riding on Everton being relegated this season :r

If Gerrard had gone, I think Liverpool would be a team fighting for survival, or one who would storm the Coca Cola Championship next season... a fair few of these players are relatively fresh in terms of experience in premiership first teams.

Cisse has flashes of brilliance - if he could only stay healthy and crack the starting 11.
I think we should be grateful Cisse is fit to start any games after that 'oh my god, he has 2 knees' incident last season.

Roma, Boooooooo... I hate Roma. :)
jgros, you have to understand that comes from being a Lazio and Inter fan. Lazio and Roma just don't mix. :r

Liverpool lacks scoring, the Defence is doing the job. They should have never let go of Baros.

Anyone get a chance to see Liverpool v Chelsea? How bad were the calls? I did not get a chance to see the game. Points are precious in the group stage of the Champions League - good to see they got one.

I hate to say that a game is big this early in the season but Sunday's game at Anfield is huge. A win and you've got some big momentum - plus someone needs to put the brakes on the EPLs Russian Oil club.

I watched the game. Liverpool should have taken the 3 points. There were 2 "questionable" non-calls that would have awared a PK to Liverpool. The first one, early on, showed Hyypia was fouled in the penalty area. But I can also see how this one was missed or let go. However, in the second half, Liverpoool were pressuring goal and a shot was heading in. William Gallas of Chelsea had his arm out paralell to the ground and played the ball with his bicep. No call. How THAT was missed or ignored, I'll never know.
Liverpool had many other opportunities and failed to cash in so it would be unfair to say that non-call cost them the match. BUT had the PK been awarded and the spot kick converted . . . .

All in all Liverpool needs goal scorers. That's it. Peter, I'm starting to be a Liverpool fan. Why couldn't it be a team closer to the top of the standings? :)
