Might need to start at Season 1, lots going on in this series.
The Wire and Boxing are my only reasons for HBO at this point.

Certainly DO start from Season 1. This is where all of the character development happens, for the most part, and I think it is critical to see where the wirers came from as well as how they got to where they are now...and why.
I don't get HBO but faithfully stay 1 season behind via Netflix. IMO The Wire is the best show of any kind in quite some time, other than Deadwood of course.

How did I miss a "Wire" thread?????
Seriously, I get depressed when I think that this is the last season. I refuse to watch the ep's early only because then it will be over faster!
Marlo staring at Prop Joe when he gets popped was freaky. The guy who plays Marlo does a fantastic acting job as a sociopath. Another great scene was where Marlo is in the Caymans at the bank and the teller is obviously smiling at him and he is totally oblivious to it anything other than his money.
Anyway :tu

This show is incredible, and I am not partial because I'm on the eastside.
I knew Prop Joe was going to get it, but wasn't expecting it that way.
Agreed Deadwood is another great show, but I am also partial to Rome and OZ, but The Wire is the tops.
I watch on Demand, so I am a week ahead, need to be careful not to be a spoiler.

It's ironic, and I'm sad to see him go, but at least if he went I'm glad he didn't get it from someone high up in Marlo's crew. I mean, the kid may be involved with Marlo, but Marlo really didn't have much to do with his death.

I would have liked for Omar to get a little farther down his hit list.
And I agree with you. McNutty is having some serious inner turmoil because of all this. I think he will get spanked hard and be happy to clean his conscience.

I'd like to see McNulty skate on this...there is always the possibility of Templeton at the Sun taking the fall with all his lies in his reporting - and he is up to his neck with his involvement with his serial killer reporting.

That was about 2 things, Marlo standing up for his name on the street and him saying goodbye to the corners he grew up on. Basically you have Marlo doing what Stringer and Avon couldn't do, give up the corners and go legit.

To me it was him needing to go back to the corner one more time to show to himself and whoever was there who he is, how he got to the top and also show no matter what, you can't take the thug out of him.

IMHO, I think it was showing that Marlo can't ever shake "the game". Nothing, not even hobnobbing with millionaires and being filthy rich gives him the satisfaction of being king of, or having a good reputation, on the streets. It kills him that he had to retire, and they cut away to him standing there on the corner which is where he'll always long to be.

I am more with your interpretation...I don't think it was one last visit to the corner, saying goodbye and going legit.
I think him walking out of the party, and hitting the corner means he can't give up the game and being "King", and that he will die or go to jail before going legit.

I would almost agree if it weren't for Slim and the other guy with the greeks making a deal. Marlo gave up the source and told people others he didn't want a piece of the action. But I guess the writers left it that way for us to draw our own ending.

True, but in the scene, he walks up to the corner boys unarmed and tries to take them out. I don't think he would a problem waging war to get back in the game.

Ahhh.., but he takes them out because they disrespected him and pulled a gun on him. There's no doubt that Marlo couldn't just get back in, after all he told Prop Joe, that basically you can't ever really get out of the game. However, I think that Marlo saw things for what they were, he got a get out of jail free card and was going to use it, :2.

I've been avoiding this thread like the plague but finally got to watch it. While the ending was bittersweet because the show's over, I think it ended well. The ending was fitting, it tied up (some) loose ends and overall didn't leave you with a great feeling, which was expected.
I loved the political parts that played out with the mayor and the police and all. I couldn't have asked for that to have gone better.
