I had my first stogie on Feb 3rd last year, about 1am, so might as well have been the 2nd (my birthday), and this saturday is my birthday.
Now then, many newbies make a thread about stages down the slippery slope, and I'm no different.
The first was a RyJ No2 (I think) in a tube. My friend bought it for me and I'm told its a great cigar (memory has gotten fuzzy).
Since then I've been tumbling down the slope, and right now I sit in my room with my vision impaired by the smoke from this Partagas Short in my hand. I've found some cigars I love, and some I don't.
Along the way, I've been bombed a couple of times by some very nice people from another forum, and as a result of this I have been able to try some fantastic cigars, the best of which is probably the Bolivar Belicoso Fino's Gerrard Blend (utterly wonderful in EVERY way).
So, upon reflection of my near first year of "eating in a fancy dining car, drinking coffee and smoking big cigars", I've loved it. I've found cigars a great aid to working and a great way to relax or to contemplate various things. There's a bar I love near here where I will go and sit by myself with a cigar and a pint of wonderful Kirin Beer (Japanese), look at the view and just relax, after such a beer (or two) and a cigar (or two) in this spot, I am just in a state or pure relaxation.
Cigars have so far been a very good friend to me, and I have a feeling they will continue to be so, and be an enemy of my bank balance. I've learned a lot from this site and from the other forum I am a member of, and I still have much to learn and many, many cigars to try.
From CS and the other forum, I can tell that cigar smokers are a generous bunch, and that many are top notch people who simply want to help their fellow BOTL's, which is awesome. I've posted on many different international forums (mostly guitar related) and never seen the generosity or accepting nature I have seen on cigar forums. Not only that but the standard of service from cigar merchants is fantastic, it defies the lowering standards of care I have experienced in my short (so far) life as an independant adult.
So, I say thanks to everyone on this forum for the knowledge that they share so happily and for the supposrt they show to every member here.
Now to sum up this rather long winder post, here's some pictures from my year.
