Now, I have had a heck of a week or 2. One BOTL on this board, MaduroFan, sent me a bomb at just the right time. It really made my day. He sent me a beautiful pipe, and a tin of Blue Note tobacco by Torben Dansk. Now, I have smoked a corn cob pipe a few times while backpacking with friends, and they were ok. Nothing to make me want to put down a cigar for. Tonight, I smoked my first good pipe. I am not going to go into any details or pretend to be any sort of expert. In fact, I am not even sure if I did it right. I will say this though, it was incredibly pleasant. It was nothing like a cigar. I know this is a weird description, but it tasted almost like a birthday cake. I really enjoyed the art of keeping the pipe going. It was a little bit of work, but it was pleasant. Next time I go to my local cigar shop, I am going to try a few different tobaccos out so I can compare a little bit. All in all though, I am definently going to begin investing more time into this pipe. Thanks again Bill.

Glad you are enjoying the pipe. You might want to stay away from some of the straight Va's for a while (a good case of tounge bite will demonstrate why :D ). The Bluenote tends to permantly flavour your pipe so dont be suprised if some of that flavour bleeds over in to your next bowl.

I've always wanted to try the pipe, but thats a whole different thing from what I see as smoking a stick.

So you dont mix tobaccos in your pipe period?

Its a personal choice.

Mixing tobaccos in one pipe will tend to give the pipe a bland taste after a few years. Some tobaccos leave a ghost smell/taste.

I recommend giving any such pipe a really deep clean. Cotton-ball dipped in vodka and placed in side of bowl for a week should do the trick. After doing this and smoking about 8 to 10 bowls the pipe should be fine.

I myself have a different pipe for each tobacco I own. I rotate the pipes on a daily bases and store my tobacco in Kilner Jars.

Happy Smoking!
