I've been playing basketball with my son in the driveway since he could lift a basketball. I've never let him win because it build character. Now that he's 14 and 6 feet tall, he returns the favor by creaming me whenever we play. I'm not bad at the game for 43 years old with bad knees and ankles but he makes every freaking shot he puts up.
Last night, I decided to bring my "A" game in our usual game to 25. I was on fire baybeee!! I made everything from the outside and had some mad hops on the inside. We traded leads 6 times and the game was always within 2 points (we played 1 point shots with a 2 point line on the outside). We play that you have to win by 2 which is never a problem as the best I can usually do is lose 25-10. Well, the score was tied at 25 to 25 and I made a shot. Nate took the ball to the 2 point line and made it; beating me 27-25.
I am completely wiped out today and my knee doesn't want to bend for things like sitting and walking but my son did say "Dad, you still got some moves. You'll never beat me again, but you should be able to handle guys your own age".

That is great! Brings back some fond memories. Those are the times he will remember later in life.
I can still remember the first time I beat my dad at golf. It was kinda bittersweet.

Nice story, a right of passage I'm sure every dad looks forward to with both nervousness and a warm fuzzy feeling.
I can only imagine the feelings of pride you feel for your son. Never having had kids myself I can only look in from the outside and say ..... "Good job Dad".

Went to my son's 8th grade honors award banquet tonight. He was one of 6 8th graders in class of over 450 to be chosen to take the SAT early. He not only made high honors this year but scored better than 60% of high school juniors on the SAT. He definitely has my IQ and somebody elses study habits!

And it won't be all that long before the 2 of you are sitting and relaxing and remembering the good ole days when you used to win, and when he used to win, all while enjoying a cigar:)

This is so true MCS. I just hit this point with my own boy after getting creamed by him for the last few years. You will be here sooner than you really want.
And oh yeah, by the way, the knees and ankles don't get any better. :ss
