It should be fine but I think it depends on the finish of the handles. I would think that the WD-40 could damage the finish is of some of the wood handled cutters or the Havana cutter.

Could the stickiness be from tobacco particles or oils that build up from use?

I use a Q-tip with a little alcohol to clean the blades or warm soap and water and it does the trick.

If anything I would use Mineral oil to lubricate it.......:2

Man, I haven't used powdered graphite since pinewood derby as a cub scout.

Be careful with the amount of WD40 you put on there!

Honestly, the Qtip & rubbing alcohol will get some of the oils off the blades pretty easily.

Last, some graphite lubricant such as Tuf Glide or Lock Ease will work as well.

If you are still having problems, we'll always take care of it.

My biggest problem is I hate to be without my cutter too long, and probably should buy a backup.

I will be travelling at the end of the Summer for a week though, so how long is the turnaround time if I sent it priority?
