View Full Version : The Puck

I heard about the "The Puck" on the Dogwatch Social Club and decided to give it a shot. I've never had any real luck holding RH in any humidor I've had. (I've never tried using just beads.) I ordered the puck on Thursday and it came in the mail on Saturday. I didn't get it until Monday though because I had it shipped to my office. Who knew Cigarmony would be so efficient!

Monday afternoon I charged it and put it in my large, desktop humidor. Tuesday evening I added a little more distilled water, based on my assumption that my humidor was on the dry side before I started all of this. After that I was in the process of organizing some things and I found my old, analog hygrometer. I've never read anything good about analog hygrometers but I salt tested this one years ago and at that time it was dead on. I put it in the humidor and forgot about it until Wednesday after work. I opened the lid and was happy to see the needle right on 70%. (I bought the one with the 70% beads.) Since then, and I admit it has been less than a week, every time I've checked it, it's been dead on 70%. I'm so happy with this I'm going to see if the short version will somehow fit in my cigar caddy.

I used to love Drymistat Sticks, but, at least so far, "The Puck" works much better.

WOW! Thanks a TON for the kind words fellas.

Being a "start up" is tough and since I won't be "in the black" for quite some time, your kudos of product and customer service are the only true rewards (and motivators) to keep me going. THANK YOU!

.... I'm so happy with this I'm going to see if the short version will somehow fit in my cigar caddy.

The "Short" version will fit the 10 & 15 ct travel humidors with a slight modification to the lid foam (you need to cut a larger opening).

It is a PERFECT fit for the existing "Creedo" style humidifier found in the 24, 32 & 50 ct travel humidiors.

Thanks again for the support, I greatly appreciate it.

Sincerely,
Mark

...Looking forward to part 2 viz cigar caddy.

This is actually how I came up with the idea well over a year ago. I have been using the "prototype" ever since. :u

I just ordered two of the larger ones for my wine coolerdor. The velcro attachments are what sold me on these things. It will be nice just to slap them in there without taking up too much room! :)

Thanks for the great pricing Mark!

Thanks Todd!

If you put the rougher velcro on the back of the puck, it will stick to the foam in the travel humidor without having to use the 2nd part in a different location (the softer part) like a desktop.

Got my pucks in yesterday and WOW...these things are cool! Question: is it any problem I have one mounted upside-down? The only issues I see is when I need to re-charge the foam, but it should just yank off of the velcro...correct?

Word to the wise...instructions say open these carefully...DO IT! I had quite a few beads spill out due to my carelessness (OK...excitedeness :)).

Yep, I designed it to mount to the lid with the velcro for easy transfer or removal.

I am having a more "professional" looking card insert that will stress the word "carefully" :D

Glad you dig it bro! I started posting testimonials on www.GetThePuck.com (the website is being redesigned as we speak).

Thanks again for the support and spread the word! ;)

Bro Jeb' - I'm glad to hear we pointed you in the right direction. My Puck in my desk humi at work is doing the job spot on every day, where as before, with the Credo unit I was constantly having to fiddle with it. I love these things, and we're proud to be associated with Cigarmony.com. Mark is a stand-up guy and provides great service.

First I'm a nwebie. I have heard about the puck but I have a few questions. First does it have beads in it? What do you charge it with? Do you have to re-charge it? Can you just put distilled water in it? Can you only buy them online? I hope this is not to many questions but I just got a new humi and cant decide what humidifaction device to use. The puck sounds like a good product though.
Thanks,
Slim

Slim - the Puck does contain either 65% or 70% beads with a thin foam covering to keep them intact. Use only distilled water to charge them. They also come in 2 sizes.

I know Mark is working to get them available in other locations, but his service and prices are great. I'd suggest you order directly from Cigarmony.com.

Hi Slim,
1.) Yes, it contains a moisture sensitive silica based media that has been engineered to precisely regulate relative humidity to a predetermined level.

2.) Distilled water.

3.) "Re-charging" depends on if you have a dry or wet condition in your closed container.

If it's "wet", above the selected RH Puck - either 65% or 70%, then the Puck will absorb the water vapor until the RH is brought down.

If you have a drier humidor, below the selected RH Puck level, the Puck should then be charged with distilled water. It will then release water vapor until increased to the set level.

4.) Distilled water only

5.) Please visit www.GetThePuck.com for "authorized retailers". (The new Puck site will be up in a week or so with a more professional look & feel).

6.) Check out the testimonials on the Puck website, they are direct emails from some of the people who have purchased them so far. No complaints yet...other than not being careful enough when opening the lid :D

Hope this helps bro!

Slim-
Yes it has beads in it, either 65% or 70%, whichever you prefer. You charge it with distilled water and I assume you have to recharge it at some point, although mine is still dead on at 70% after one week. As far as I know you can only buy them online right now, however, I plan on recommending them to my B&M (Ted's Tobacco) as soon as I can get in there.

Hope this helps.

Another question: I doused the foam with distilled as per the directions, however, should I have sprayed the beads as well? Just curious as if wetting the foam is enough, or if both the foam and the beads should be moist.

Thanks again for providing a great product Mark!

You can do either or both depending on your needs.

Since the intention is to wholesale them to retail tobacco shops, the idea of the hydrating the foam was to enable a simple way for people who aren't familiar with the media to use the product. :u

Thanks again!

ps - I just got word that I got in to the RTDA! The Puck will be at booth #788 near the center/food court area! Woo-hoo!

I've checked the authorized resellers from your web site but can't seem to find the pricing! I have a 1/2 lb of the humidity beads that I put in some aluminum cigar tubes I drilled small holes in and they work great, btw. The Puck seems to be MUCH more convienient though! How many beads will each size hold?

Thanks,

-Mike

The Puck is spot on in my 20 ct. humi and I've recommended to two B&M's in the area. I'll be following up with both of them in the next week or so. Great product and great customer service. :D

I've checked the authorized resellers from your web site but can't seem to find the pricing!

We were required to change the name as of last night, so we are working on resolving that now. Hopefully entirely new product & packaging within a few weeks.

The "short" will regulate approx. 405 cu in and the "tall" will regulate approx "1080 cu in.

Hope this helps and have a great weekend.

I find it hard to believe it's not legal for me to refer to "The Puck" however I wish. After all, mine still says "Humidi-Puck".

You can refer to it however you like bro :u

I changed the name in order to be able to attend the RTDA.

Humidip*k filed a temporary restraining order trying to prevent me from using the old name just 2 days prior to the RTDA!

We had to decide, very quickly, whether to fight for the old name and lose all the expenses that we had into the RTDA or change the name in order to still attend the RTDA.

We decided that it would be best to change the name to what people already started calling it - "The Puck" and to attend the RTDA.

It worked out for the best as now The Puck will be in at least 17 stores within 2 weeks (with MANY more on the horizon) and we found a source for an affordable full color retail box that looks REALLY sharp (as a result of going to the RTDA).

Call it what you like but we will be calling it "The Puck" (www.GetThePuck.com) :D

Thanks again for all the support, I greatly appreciate it!

~M

I have two... a larger one for my desktop and a smaller one for my travel tupperdore. Both hold exactly at 70%. Great product, and not too expensive. If you struggle with maintaining humidity, or want to have a maintanence free humi.... get the puck
