Anyone seen it? VERY GOOD movie, though the ending is sad, but none the less really makes you think about how stupid hate really is...

Edward Nortons best performance, I saw it a few years ago, an American Tale that scares the hell out of me as a parent, one of the best films of the past 10 years. No sugar coating ( or should I say rum soaking, this is a stogie site afterall!) relaxnsmoke

Going to give this a bump. Watched it again last night and it is a must see in my book.

I'm not sure about his "best" performance...he was pretty damn good in primal fear and fight club.

There was a lot of BS about American History X and how the director was having problems with other creatives in getting the movie's message across...atleast if I remember correctly. The one thing that I would change, is the background of the father/son development. One thing I had always had a problem with in that movie is how he went from eager-wide-eyed all american kid to supreme racist in just a few flashbacks...just didn't seem right. They didn't development the believability of the transformation enough from either between his father's racist beliefs or the teaching so Stacey Keach's character. Oh well. Great movie

I still cringe at the curbing scence.

I do agree it was probably Norton's best performance. I love the part where he is rallying the crew before they trash the grocery store.

Also recommended is "Romper Stomper" starring Russell Crowe. Not as informative but crazy nonetheless.

Romper Stomper's a good movie. Haven't seen it in years. Don't know if it is in the same league with AHX though. I'll have to watch it again.

i thought the movie was great.

however, i wish there was some way to let the audience know the difference between skinheads and neo-nazi skinheads.

most people are still under the assumption that all skins (and most people with shaved heads) are neo-nazis, which is entirely untrue.

the true history of skinheads needs to be put out there somehow, and obviously the media and/or movies aren't doing anything but further tarnishing the name and making people see only the racist skins.

I still cringe at the curbing scence. Who doesn't? It's pretty intense.

Definitely one of my favourite films with a very profound message.

Thats because the public loves headlines and stories. The Neo-nazi side of the skinhead subculture is the one that makes the news, is featured in movies and books. The non-racist skins (boneheads) just aren't exciting to the general public and probably no one cares. They just get overshadowed and then catagorized with the neo-nazis as racists.

I may be wrong on this, but just from my personal experience (I'm a cop that works gangs, and not a skinhead or neo-nazi :D ) the neo-nazi's outnumber the SHARPS. Am I wrong?

What about the shower scene?
I'd think I'd rather bite the curb.
