View Full Version : Ronson JetLite Butane Lighter

I bought one of these a few months ago at my local Wal Mart. It is encased in a chrome shell that comes in a variety of patterns and has an easily adjustable flame height. I have been very pleased with this lighter and has been problem free for the three months I have owned it. Plus, at only $2.94, it is easy to replace if lost or broken.

Yes; I have been using the Ronsons for the last two months. I can't believe how nice this lighter is; I would pay $10 for these as they are better then any lighter you would find at a Tobacco Outlet for $5.

I would still be refilling the original ronson I bought but it got taken away by airport security on my way back from Thailand!

Yeah i got one of these and am very pleased with it, having allredy droped it numerous times it still works like a charm, very pleasing look and quality

my only real complaints are that i cant disassemble it incase i ever need too (like its really that costly to replace)

and the ronson logo on it, this is just a cosmetic issue and no effect on the lighter, just think it would look alot more appealing without ronston and R stamped into it. if it was printed on where i could rub it off that would be nice, but again this is just a cosmetic issue and in no way devalues this great lighter

That's a great looking lighter and for the price, it should do very well as a pick-up and go lighter. You can throw and extra in the car and so on. I need to get one or two.

I saw these and thought about picking it up.

Looks like I'm going to now. I still am using an 8 dollar triple flame lighter I bought from a tabacco shop. Works really well too, but I think that three flames is just overkill and a waste of butane. I always accidentally burn too much of the cigar since the flame is so wide.

I'm gonna hit walmart today and get one or two of these.

Is it safe to keep one of these in a car filled with butane. I live in Houston and it can reach 100 degrees outside, so inside the car there is no telling- 120-130 possibly? I drive a dark green car! :hn

Brewed a batch of beer and herfed with my father- and brother-in-law this weekend and told my father-in-law he could keep the lighter when I was leaving since he didn't have anything but a bic and I was leaving him with a few smokes. He looked at me funny and gave me the old "Oh I could never....are you sure....." until I informed him it had cost me $3 a Wally World and he could get another right down the street.

Good thing I had two more at home from my last trip. :)

It will recharge just fine. Make sure to purge it, though(of corse, I'm sure you already knew that). I have refilled mine several times with the cheap stuff that would make most lighters sputter and die, and it works as well as it did when I bought it. Great buy, IMO.

No, I didn't know that. First butane lighter. What you talkin bout?

Just press the ignitor until no more gas is coming out. You can tap it then do it again to make sure there is no gas in there before you refill. Otherwise it can sputter. Also make sure that you let the butane warm for a few minutes before you try lighting it. It comes out of the canister ice cold.

What he said!

Also, after all the gas is out from holding the ignitor, I use a small screwdriver to depress the valve and make sure all the gas is out that way as well.

Great call guys! Stopped by my Walmart Friday and thought they were out....there was one hiding WAAAAY at the back of the peg.

I just got 3... and they are a nice looking lighter for $3. Works great out of the package. If it lasts a few weeks it'll be doing better than the $15-20 lighters I've had. Why do manufacturers have such a hard time making a reliable lighter? :c
The only ones that have worked well have been the cheapies. I got 2 from CI years ago for ~$8 a piece that worked great. When those retired, I got another $8 one, which worked fine until it got drowned in a river. I then got a Colibri Firebird, and it was crap. Returned it for another, and it isn't reliable. I got a Z-plus Zippo insert, and that didn't work right off the bat (viper sent a replacement right away, though).
Anyway, I think I'm sticking to the cheap stuff from now on! Great find!

Ronson fuel from Wal-Mart. It only lit about once out of 20 tries. I thought it might be the fuel, so I got some better fuel from cbid. That definitelhy helped - it lit every other time or so then.

I was in two different Wal-Marts today, so I thought I'd try another. The first WM didn't have any of these lighters, the second had at least 40, so I got one. I filled it up with the better fuel and it has lit first time, every time.

Ask at the tobacco register. Here in Massachusetts, some towns require that they be kept behind the counter. That is also where they keep the large cans of Ronson fuel. Perhaps your town has a similar requirement. Paul

Although you'll probably end up paying about 5 bucks more than wm or cvs with shipping and all. In 4 different shades also...the satin dusk looks kinda cool.

I bought one of these a while back and a lot of my friends/family keep using it, so I'm trying to buy a few for xmas gifts, but Walmart stores seem to have a low stock. I got the last one in stock at a local walmart, so I'm going to have to try at another store about 10 miles away to get some more.

I have, however, seen some of the engraved lighters at walmart a while back. So walmart carries the different styles, not just the plain silver ones.

Update on my two, one isn't doing so hot, it has been retired. The damn thing lights burns for awhile and then just goes out, and you have no gas flow for a bit. You wait awhile and it comes back to life just fine and repeats the same problem all over again. Will see how unit number two holds up! I'm using the ronson fuel.

I'm having the same problem with the first one I bought. When it stops working, moving the flame adjustment to minimal then to full gets it working again. It has happened a few times, for $3, it's worth it.

Also when it momentarily dies and then comes back to life, purge and refill. Cures the problem. I wonder if only using Ronson fuel in the lighter contributes to this problem by momentarily blocking the jet.

Go with the Vector Gas, works like a charm... Also, as with most lighters make sure it is fairly warm or you will have the sputtering issues.

Well, I bought the $1.94 Ronson butane, but they were out of the lighters. I'll check back periodically, I wonder when they typically restock.

Still out of the lighters as of today! They were also out of the Butane today, so I'm glad I got that while they had it...now I just need to keep checking up on the torch.

try cvs for them, usually located behind the counter, they will run you about 4 bucks that way, but who the hell cares, its 4 dollars for an awesome, reliable lighter.

No CVS in town! Walgreens?

Well I got fed up. Walgreens didn't appear to have them but I found a ton at USA Drug! $4.99, but what the heck it's worth it compared to checking back at Walmart all the time. Really slick looking lighter.

Also, I picked up a 3 pack of plastic Ronson "refillable butane lighters" for $3 thinking they were cheaper versions of the metal one for $5, but their flame is just like a regular lighter. Bummer.

I just wanted to throw some love at everyone here on CS who recommended the Ronson. I picked up a couple at Wal-Mart and the little bastages light up EVERY time! Much more than I can say for my Colibri Firebird I bought at the B&M. Thanks all!:tu

I bought 4 of these a year back and 3/4 still work.
The only reason the fourth doesn't - is because I lost it.

Great cheapie torch.

These are outstanding, durable, reliable lighters. Just don't use that crappy Ronson butane.

I've got one in my golf bag, one in my car, one in the desk at work, one at the house that I use and three others still in the package. I bought all of these almost a year ago and have never put anything other than Ronson fuel in them.

I honestly think that purging all of the fuel out of the tank before every refill and hitting the jet area with an air compressor from time-to-time is much more important than what fuel you use (at least with these cheapies). I'm still waiting for that crappy Ronson fuel to ruin one of my lighters. :)

Our Wal-Mart has a express checkout line next to the tobacco/cigarette area in the front of the store. The Ronsons are hanging in this checkout line.
Does the Wal-Mart you went to have cigarette sales? If so look around that area.:chk

Same location at my local Wal-Mart, though the peg has been empty every time I look for one.

The only Wal-mart in the Seattle region is at least 30 miles from me. But I may be heading that way to get some work done on my bike, so if I'm down that way I'll have to check them out. :chk (Chicken just because.)

Wow. No Walmarts in Seattle? That's amazing. I'm 37 miles from the nearest WalMart (Sheridan, WY) and they didn't have the Ronsons.

I picked one up at a local CVS Pharmacy. It was $4.25. Now I have something to keep in the glove box for when I find a surprise cigar at any new B&M I come across!

My exit is #20 (plus another few miles) on I-405. The only Wal-mart I'm aware of in the area is exit #2 on 405. That's in Renton, which is considered a suburb of Seattle, I believe, but certainly not in Seattle proper.

Unless I'm just stupid and there's another one somewhere in Seattle, that's the closest I've ever found. :)

Wow, I didn't know about the Lynnwood one! It's 12 miles, compared to 22 miles (according to http://maps.yahoo.com/dd). Definitely closer.

I bought one of these a few months ago at my local Wal Mart. It is encased in a chrome shell that comes in a variety of patterns and has an easily adjustable flame height. I have been very pleased with this lighter and has been problem free for the three months I have owned it. Plus, at only $2.94, it is easy to replace if lost or broken.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c33/eventer289/main_jetlite3.jpg I have owned one of these lighters for the last year and mine is still working perfectly. Lights everytime I use it and I bought one for all my friends. Everyone of the the really expensive lighters I have owned have been a bust and have either quit working soon after I got them or never really worked well at all. I would second the opinion given above.
