I'm new to this whole scene, as you know, so forgive me if this sounds ignorant.

I just asked randomly what a cigar cost as I thought I should just jump in and buy a cigar that looked good to smoke.

The guy told me they were 2.50 each but seemed confused. (didn't know what humidifier fluid was, etc).

Aren't these meant to be like, 12 or 13 bux a stick?
They're obviously not the cubans, but I can only find prices for cohiba dominican chuirchills starting at around 13 bux.

Mine would be number 3. :D

Well I just smoked one...

Very dissapointing.

Terrible tight draw on it, with something oddly fungal about the after taste.

Ah well...

Hrm, yeah.

Just found a review that said much the same.

Crap draw and a kind of stale flavour that wasn't very pleasant.
I'll age it a year or so in the humidor and see what happens.

I've had a few of the nonCuban Cohibas and didn't like
any of them. I can't remember in fungal taste but I do
remember that I didn't want to buy any more.

It was more mushroomy that socky, yeah...

You ever bitten into an orange and had it be a bad one?
THAT flavour.

Perhaps we have stumbled onto a new flavouring.

The new Macanudo Prince Harry Shitake Signiture.

You my friend have become a contributor to the Dominican Cohiba Fund of South Florida. All the bands that poker was kind enough to show with the exception of the last one which is the red dot are made right here in the US. They are applyed to any bundle cigar that can be purchased for 4-8 dollars by the person or persons that are producing them. After bands and boxing they are resold for anywhere from $17 to $30 a box. The end result is you just payed 2.50 for a 50 cent dog rocket. To add a little more to the fact 8 out of 10 times they are short fill. I do not tell you this to insult you just giving first hand information.

Nah, no offense taken.

I freely admit that I have no idea what I'm doing just yet, and I guess, now I know about that particular cigar.

What exactly is meant by "a short fill" ?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Sep-20-02 AT 02:14 PM (CDT)]short fill means that the filler of the cigar uses pieces of scrap tobacco leftover from making other cigars. short fill tends to make a cigar burn hotter and faster, which can affect flavor. as such, short fill cigars are (supposed to be) cheaper than long fill cigars. hope this helps.

I supose that makes sense, yes...It would also explain the terrible draw on the thing.

Rather than a perfect concertina effect going right along the cigar, it would be warped and bent due to the starting and stopping of the filler...

AFter half an hour of trying to smoke it, I ended up cutting it in half to try to get past the blockage, but it seemed pretty consistently jammed up.

ANyone ever tried one of those automated cigar skewer devices?
I can't remember the name of it, but it claimed to make a cigar have perfect draw, I presume by removing a small section right down the center.

The only thing I can offer on such a device is don't waist your money. A thin wood kabob skewer will do the job. If you cannot get it to draw after one or two stabs toss it. :D
