Well, i just purchased my first humi and i went big. It is the Versaille model from cigarhumidors-online.com. 300 count humi, just received it Thursday and i am now seasoning it. Does seasoning seriously try anyone elses patience? It has only been 2 days and it is already driving me crazy. Enough with the whining, and on to initial impressions.
Shipping: The box it arrived in was huge. It was double boxed, inside the smaller box it was lined with styro. The humidor itself was wrapped in foam sheeting as well. Excellent job on the packing. The humi came out of the box perfect, no damage anywhere.:D
This humidor is very well made and very heavy. The inside is all cedar and smells wonderful. The bottom is large enough to house boxes of cigars and has removable dividers for single storage. Above that is 2 trays, each with removable dividers as well. Hinges are brass and recessed into the cedar. On the inside of the lid there is a 1/4 inch extension of cedar to further seal the humi when the lid is shut. Glass on the top and front has beveled edges and there are recessed brass handles on the side. I find the overall finish on the outside to be awesome, no drips or spots in the laquer finish. The bottom has feet rather than being flat and they are felt lined. Did i mention this thing is heavy? A lot heavier than i thought it would be. :)
I am very impressed by this humi at this point, i know there are some on the boards that like the Vicksburg, IMHO this would be a good alternative if someone wanted something a little smaller.
I already have some of the humi-beads and they are in there now seasoning this puppy up. I can't wait until it is done, i already have a list of boxes of cigars i am going to load this thing with.
Just a note about the vendor, cigarhumidors-online.com. After i ordered from them it was taking the humi a long time to be delivered. I emailed them and inquired as to its where abouts. They mailed me back almost immediately with a tracking number and exact status of the humi from ups. In a world where customer service seems to be going out the window, i found this to be exceptional. Kudos to the staff there.
I don't believe this particular humi has been reviewed here before, so if you have any follow up questions i will do my best to answer them.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed my long winded review, i can't wait to get cigars in this thing.

Its a good thing you picked up a 300ct unit. Trust me, you will need it if you get hooked! I have a 100ct and a 75ct now, Im thinking about adding another 150-300ct for boxes and aging. Will see what happens... There is always the coolerdor option available if that 300ct unit fills up!

Sure happy to hear all the +'s about your humidor. Congratulations, it's a real dandy. I have one coming in from the same company you bought yours from. It's due Mon. Your humidor is sure a pretty one.

Sounds very similar to the Vicksburg. SOunds also like you will enjoy filling that puppy up. Have fun and nice review. It would probably be even helpfull as well to re-visit it in a few months and let everyone know your impressions of it after it has been in use. I know my initial and then burn-in impressions of the Vicksburg were slightly different. That said, I still love my Vicky.

John,
If you have problems maintaining the humidity in your Versailles, I'd highly recommend getting a tube of food grade silicone and running a bead around the outside of that front-mounted hygrometer.
I have a Versaille type humidor myself, and had trouble getting the humidity above 40 - 50. Once I sealed the gauge, the humidity shot up to 70 and leveled off within an hour. In a dry climate like Vegas, that pretty gauge is likely to be a major leak source.

Bill,
I appreciate the insight, as right now my digi hygometer is reading at 52% and has been since i got it. I have 65% beads in there that i wet about 60% of them and they are now soaked. I am going to try that silicone and see, i have a feeling i am having the same problem. Thanks again

If you're trying to season a humidor with the RH Beads, it will work but take a little time for them to release enough moisture to properly season it. You may also have to rehydrate them several times.
Try placing a large bowl of distilled water in the close humidor and letting it sit for 10-14 days to properly "season" it. After that, take out the bowl and dry the RH Beads so they are 60% saturated (they will soak the excess moisture from the bowl during the seasoning and become 100% saturated).
Hope this helps

I am actually looking into getting this humidor sometime in a few months.
Your impressions sound favorable, but let us know how well it maintains humidity!

Reminds me of accidentally ;) stumbling across some Christmas presents when I was a little kid and having to wait to get them

How is the storage in the Vicksburg?
Love it. Everyone has different methods, I have two. In one I store all boxes in the bottom, I store a single row in the bottome two trays and a double stacked row in the top. The bottom in that one I currently have about 8 boxes with room for two more small boxes (ordered last night LOL).
On the other the trays have the same setup but instead of boxes I bought three of the spanish cedar trays from Bargain humidor. They stack neatly underneath the 4 trays that come with the Vicksburg. It leaves enough room on the side of the vicksburg to also hold another box or two depending on size. When being thrifty I easily pass the 300 mark in storage in these, though I doubt I'd ever really make to the 500 mark.

Here is a quick review.
GREAT HUMI!
Awesome value.
Owned two of them at one time and both worked great.
Space for three to four boxes below.
Remove the trays and you can fit up to eight boxes.
Throw some beads or a cigar oasis and life is wonderful.
Oh, one last thing. Get the Bubinga as much nicer looking than the Mahogany.
I had both and the difference stood out.
Their Mahogany is closer to black than what you would think it to be.

That would be the beast. I searched around in this section and there is not currently a review on it. So maybe this weekend unless someone beats me to it I'll do a review.
