I thought it was pretty cool when I first saw one and HAD to have one but I realize now that using the guillotine cutter give alot more smoke and flavor. That's what I like. That's my story and I'm stickin to it :tg

When I first started, I tried them all. But now I just stick with my Xikar. I just want a quick and easy cut.

I find that sometimes a punch being a smaller opening focuses all the smoke onto my toungue, makes a cigar more intense or at least more concentrated.

I use both, but I carry a punch everywhere.

Have not tried a punch yet, but I do like a small opening when smoking a torpedo, it the draw is good.

Personally, I like the punch.. one of my favorite cuts. But then again, I don't have a palio

I use a punch almost exclusively. I may grab a palio sometime though.

I have to agree, cutting seems the way to go for me. Torpedos make it easy.

I stoped using one after I ripped the entire head off a cigar while trying to pull the punch out!!!

Get a palio. You won't regret it.

Another vote here for the Palio. I use it exclusively after having punches and single-blades. A punch can be useful for large RG cigars.

I liked the punch when I was more of a newb, then graduated to a v-cutter and now I only use a guillotine.

I feel the same way. I like a lot of smoke and the punch does not do it. I thought it was the coolest little gadget when i got it but my guillotine cutter is where it is at.

also thompson cigar company has Xikar cutters 3 for 65 bucks or 2 for 45 bucks

I use the cutter for my torps and the punch for large ring guage sticks. I prefer the concentration of smoke/flavor that I get with the punch. Final factor for me is draw though. If I have to work at it, then I am more inclined to start cutting away until the stick breathes better.:2

I always start with a punch. Unless of course its a torpedo. But on regular sticks, if you start with a punch, and don't like the way the stick is drawing or whatever, then you can use a guillotine (Xikar for me). If you chop it first, you're stuck with that. Just my :2

I just got a punch, so I will be using it for the first time tonight. Probably take my new guillotine out as well just in case.

I've used my Avo punch almost exclusively for years, but recently bought a Palio from Mark at Cigarmony.com. I love them both, and still use them both, depending on the shape of the stick I want to cut.

I would be very interested in a group buy, TECH METAL MAN; would you be interested as well? Maybe I can start a new thread for a new group buy? Let me know fellas.

I prefer the punch cutter. The only other thing I use is a guillotine. Even then I only use it if draw is a problem with the punch. I got tired of damaging the heads when I was cutting them and that is why I made the switch to the punch.

I use the punch mainly for larger ring guage rounded cigars. For torpedo's and smaller ring guages I use a cheap-o quillotine. I really need to get a Xikar! :D

Good thing I have my punch attached to my lighter on a keyring. I broke my guillotine this weekend on a camping trip so now I need a new guillotine.

All I can say is I can't wait til my Palio gets here in the mail. I think it shipped today using USPS ground but it's same state (Virginia) so hoping to have it on Wednesday. On Wednesday I'm also getting two orders of cigars: One with a Fuente and Torano sampler and another with a box of Montecristo Afrique Machames.

As far as punches go... never felt the need to use one, although the idea of punching first and cutting second seems to be on the ball.

Get a Palio !

Its the only way to go.

Have to agree.

I have Xikars up the wazzoo, including a very expensive Rosewood one.
Until recently, I had found the Havana Cutter from the CS group buy to be my favorite cutter, in spite of all my Xikars. That was until my recent purchase of the Palio.

I would have to say that Palio provides an easier cutting process than the Xikar. Something about the way it is shaped that the cap just rest nicely as the blades do their job. Seems impossible to slip and have an awkward cut. Definitely a nice cutter.

I did use a punch at one time but never really liked it. Love the draw of a cut v. a punch.

I almost always try to punch first as I hate destroying the shoulder of a fine rolled cigar. If I cant get enough smoke then I cut...

Funny you say that.
It has taken me forever to get my dad to stop that.
Gave him a couple of cutters to get him used to the modern age.
That man was just hell bent on taking a bite off the cap and spitting it out, in spite of me offering to cut them for him. I guess to some degree when you are 71, you earned a right to do what the heck you want with your cigar. I however refused to give up.
He finally had to get use it as I pre-cut his cigars before giving them to him.
I have to say he did do a pretty good job on it when he did it by mouth so I guess it is something that must come with practice.:D

I started out with the punch as well.. Seems like tehre is a much better chance of the cigar getting hot and getting that extra nicotine buildup. I like my Xikar..

Never tried one, but could so many Gorillas be wrong?

I use a Xikar punch. Works for me, but if I'm going to attempt to be persuaded to another form of cutting up my favorite stick, it might as well be with something that I've heard can do no wrong...

Count me in on the GB for the Palio!
