Fellas:
I am used to smokin those cheap cigars from gas stations, sorry to admit. Now it is time to upgrade, and smoke with the big boys. First, where should a guy buy online, next, I would like to try quite a few differant brands, etc. I would prefer a light to moderate taste, not too heavy. I don't think my virgin lungs could take it. Plus, because my friends come over and drink all my beer, I would like a moderate price of around $2-$3 each. Is this reasonable, or am I just dreamin??? Since just starting out, is it necessary to purchase a humidore??? Now, I know I sound stupid, but I need to start somewhere, so why not here? Please give me info, all is appreciated, even the sarcastic advice I guess ;)
Welcome to the Jungle!!!
Give OnePyrotec an email (Club member) he may have
some smokes that might interest you. JR Alts has
some buys. There are others and I will let other
members chime in.

A couple of cigars in your price range: Puros Indios Genuine Colorado (any size) & Rolys Colorado wrapper (any size).

I second the above recommendations. As for a slightly more specific suggestion, how about the Puros Indios #4 Especial with either the Colorado of Colorado Maduro wrapper.

Welcome Contractor! Its a great site-I too am new to the cigar world and I have learned a great deal here.I cant help with suggestions for the2-3$range I usually spend a couple more bucks and go with some established names. What I did was find a reputable Tobacco shop and just start sampleing some cigars till you find some that you like, the tobacconist can also give you some info and recommendations. You can usually meet and talk to some other customers and get some ideas and suggestions from them-I was even able to get a used Humidor from one of them for a great price.
Humidors- If you plan on collecting a few cigars(beleive me you will!)a humi is a must.I ended up buying a larger humi from Thompsons for about 100$. Its not great but it gets the job done. You could also make one from an old Ice chest-Coolidor-There is info and directions here on this site.Oterwise smoke em soon or they will soon diminish in quality
Web sites-One of the best I have found for non Cuban Cigars is www.holts.com they have info, humis etc,or www.thompsonscigar.com there are literally thousand of sites!
I also found a great book by Marvin R Shanken called Shankens Cigar
Handbook- great info and well done! About 20$
Some of the smokes I have found and enjoyed are Padrons,Fonsecas,Gloria Cubano,La Flor Dominica,Ashtons,Hoya de Monterey,CAO and AVOs but these are all in the Med/Strong range.
Most importantly have fun and enjoy!

welcome contractor... i agree that a trip to a local tobacconist is the best place to begin. you'll most likely get a lot of help (if you don't, find another place) and you might find some cigars on sale or specials. you may soon discover you enjoy smoking 2 $5 cigars better than smoking 5 $2 cigars. good luck.

The Genuine is a pretty darn good cheap smoke. I got some from
OPT in a CS auction. Cheap and pretty impressive. I wrote a
review in Non Habanos section.

Swell review on the Genuine robusto, rkt. There is also a quite favorable critique plus follow-ups of the Genuine corona at Cigar Weekly on the "Cigar Reviews" forum. Either the robusto or the corona might be just the ticket.

Welcome Contractor!! I am new here and this is a great group. I have no Idea if the cigars are any good but check out www.cigarcigar.com they have a special. Small Humidor and 25 Churchhills for $27. Even if the Churchhills are Dog Rockets you will have a nice starter Humidor. Also La Unica makes a nice cigar for the money $2-$4.
Welcome Drrgill

If I can be the odd fella out, don't worry about where you start, but just start. Whatever you smoke will be a cigar that you either like or dislike and that will determine your next selection. In time you will find your favs. Just remember to have fun with it!
