A NEW RELEASE:
Well... I came through for Henry with a box of Padron's and a nickel-pack of Panza's... Henry came through for me with 15 more Henry's Tool Sets, ready to offer tomorrow.I will PM those who've expressed interest, and will fulfill as best I can.
THE BIG NEWS:
I'm cutting wood for Henry's Work Shed warming stove... Thet's big news for me, since I've labored over that stupid thing for a couple of years now!
But Henry has a plan... Whether it will work out or not depends upon he (for the product) and I (for the marketing venue).
Here's the Skinny:
-- 50 Sets of Henry's "2006 Special Edition" Tools will be produced between 10/05/06 and 11/05/06/
-- Sets will be constructed of an improved alloy, and handles will be of premium Oak (suitably finished)
-- Each set will be numbered (embossed), and each set will bear the name of the recipient (embossed) in the handles.
-- Each set will be accompanied by a "Certificate of Authenticity," signed by Henry.
I KNOW! This is kind of a crazy idea!
But if you knew Henry.. And if you knew how much he's VALUED by his "vicarious" connection with CS, I think you'd undrstand!

THANKS, GUYS!
My apology for the full PM box! Cindi and I are listing another 15 of Henry's "Classic Tool Sets" tonight, and we'll be taking carefull note of those thow are interested in his numbered "Holiday Set."
We'll try to clear out the CS inbox, and respond as we can. In the meantime, we may be reached though our regular email: neef.norris@netscape.com
FUNNY... The weather here in Mid-Michigan grew warm enough for fishing. And so... Henry went fishing.
We will update ASAP... And many thanks!

Thanks, Guys, for the input!!
We just put 15 sets of Henry's Cigar Tools up on auction (eBay item # 1100347640903) if you're interested. Henry laid an extra coat of Maple stain, an extra clear coat, and they're looking very nice!
As to the 50-run Limited Edition... I stopped down at Henry's this evening. He was about 100 yards off-shore in his fishing boat. He was pulling up what had to be a 14-inch Crappie, and yelled, "We're good to go!"
I don't know what he meant by that (if anything)... Guess I'll just go with the flow!

Thanks for the responses... ALL will be printed and filed!
FWIW... I Stopped down at Henry's after work today. He was out fishing, but left a set of the "special edition" tools on the porch (bearing his "HWH" initials), and a note:
"Steve... Try these things out for a few days, and let me know what you think. The oak handles feel nice and heavy. The nickel-steel is a bit touchy, but nice and strong. I need more depth on the embossments, but have a good plan!"
This was a good sign. When Henry's satisfied with his work, he goes fishing. When he's not, he'll spend night after night in the work shed, pissing and cussing until he gets it right.
Ahh well... That's "just Henry!"

My apologies on the typo, guys!
The correct item # is 110037640903.
I believe that 10 sets are still available as of this posting. Henry will be busy with the special Holiday Edition sets until we offer them in mid-October. I will continue crafting the original sets (under Henry's supervision) on weekends.
Onward and Foreward!

To those who own or have ordered Henry's Tool Sets:
Please TAKE YOUR TIME!! As Henry's instructions recommend, let the tool do the work. If your plunge is off-center, back out and re-insert.
I expect at least a good hour of pleasure from a cigar.... And, in the case of "tighties," I expect to spend a good minute to free up the draw.
Any experiences you have to offer (whether good or bad) are welcomed!!!

Ahhh great, you and Henry just had to go and offer a special set. Now I have to order one of those too! :r
Once the special editions are available I'll probably give my current set to my bro and then purchase one of those sets. I really like the idea and I think it'll be a neat thing to have.

SCOTT,
Hope you're finding Henry's original set useful... He's still adamant about the guarantee: If the tools don't pay for themselves in a month, send them back for a refund plus postage. With Henry, it's not about the money... It's about SAVING cigars.
As for Henry's Special Edition... We are accepting PMs in order (date/time) to reserve special-order sets. Henry received a new embossing tool (for initials and issue numbers) this morning, and he feels that he has the personalization issue solved at the level of quality he expects.
We're downright excited!!!

To those interested in a Special Edition set of Henry's Tools, please PM me. They are being reserved in order (PMs) of date and time. As of today, 9 or 10 of the sets have been spoken for.
Henry received a new set of embossing tools yesterday, and he's now satisfied with the initialing process. The Oak handles will receive the second (of four) coats of varnish today. The nickel-steel shafts have been etched with plunge reference marks, and are ready for cutting. Certificates of authenticity will be printed this weekend. And we're on-track for the personalization process to begin on 10/14.
With that, I'm heading down to the lake shortly... Panfish have grown fatter and gone deeper... Henry likes to get out there before the bass-boat-guys get there!

Cindi tells me that there are still 4 sets of Henry's "Classic" Tools available on the September release.
For those interested in Henry's Special Edition sets, this may be a very economical way to determine whether you'd like to go ahead on the special-order or not.
In Henry's words... "If you ain't got time to treat a cigar right, I ain't got time to treat you right!"
Sometimes, Henry pisses me off! But most times, he reminds me of those things that make a person "whole" --- Honor & Respect.

Here's the deal from Henry's work shed today...
-- Four sets of his "original" tools remain available on eBay
(item # 110037640903) through tomorrow. Any remaining sets will be consigned to our local B&M.
-- 14 of Henry's 50 "2006 Special Edition" sets have been reserved, according to PM date and time. The oak handles have received the foutrth (of eight) coats of varnish, and are curing nicely. Nickel-steel shafts have been polished and etched for plunge-depth. We're on-track, and will verify orders & initials to be embossed beginning 10/14.
-- 15 of Henry's "Original" sets will go up for fixed-price auction on 10/14. They will differ from previous sets ONLY in that we've chosen a Cherry (vs. Maple) handle finish for the winter months.
-- If you're looking for an "instant" and "automatic" solution to solving cigar draw problems, don't bother with Henry's Tools. If you're willing to take your time to "treat your cigars RIGHT," I would suggest visiting the "stogiefresh" website for an objective review.
__________________________________________________ __________
Had a GREAT shore-lunch with Henry today!
Fresh panfish, sizzled in Canola oil... Fresh spinach (from the bag), wilted and drizzled with bacon grease.... So far, we've not fallen victim to the "bagged spinach" thing. Guess we'll see aht happnes overnight!

Just another boring update:
-- 4 sets of Henry's Origianl Tools remain available on eBay (item #110037640903) until the uaction closes tonight. Any sets remaining from the September release will go to our loca B&M for resale (now that he's used them, he likes them).
-- Henry's Special Edition sets are coming along nicely. He's layed on 6 initial coats of urethane varnish on the handles (sanding between coats). They're curing out for embossing/initialing, and final protective coats. The oak looks sweet! 15 of the 50 available sets have been reserved. We're on-track for the 10/14 release.
-- The release of Henry's Classic Tool Sets will likely be held off until 10/29 in order to fulfill orders for the SE sets. However, when they're released again, the Classic sets will be available in a choice of Maple, Cherry, or Walnut finished handles.
-- Doc took the time to do a review of Henry's Tools on his "stogiefresh" website... He shot squarely at both the upside and downside of using the tools... That's all we can expect!
Henry's going back into the hospital for a couple of days later this week... Routine scans and follow-ups. He's upbeat, and spry as I could ever hope to be at age 80, as evidenced by his remarks on the hospital stay... QUOTE: "I sure hope they give me a nurse with a nice ass! It might make up for the crap they pass off as 'food'!!"
Ahh well... I'll be heading down to Henry's place on Wednesday for some fishing, some supper, a bourbon, and a cigar. He'll no-doubt press me on "what's going on at that stogie club." In fact, the interest and concern that CS members have shown for Henry have done more than you can possibly imagine for his attitude and his well-being. THANK YOU!!!

cant wait until i get my set, i had one of my JLP cazdores last night and that thing was so tight even after i massaged it and rolled it in my fingers that i had jaw cramp after 1/2inch, most dissapointing, not however as dissapointing as the bolivar corona i smoked first, that was awful.

Since receiving my set of tools from Steve and Henry, I was sort of hoping for a tight cigar so I could try them out. Well tonight I got my chance. I had a Felipe Gregorio Robusto that a very tight draw; so tight in fact that I may have just given up on it. But after running the shorter of the two tools through it just once, I salvaged and enjoyed what might have been a miserable cigar. My hats off to Henry and Steve for an excellent product. It does exactly what it's intended for and does it well. Thanks guys.

CATFISH...
THANKS!!! I've printed your post, and Henry will get his perfunctory hard-copy tomorrow. And I can assure you that he'll be pleased with the news of another "saved" cigar.
As I've said before, Henry doesn't much care for the idea of his tools as "accessories." He cares A LOT about his tools improving the cigar-smoking experience.
'Nuff said.

DOC,
Henry was talking about using CATFISH's dorsal as a toothpick when he gets out... And talking about taking YOU to task on the (sic) "silly-ass pouch" you wanted for his tools!
As I've said before... Henry is a self-admitted bastard. And I'm proud to call the bastard my friend.
ONWARD and FORWARD!!!
A little user tip. I had an H upmann PC with a tight draw tonight. I found that if you insert the tool and then just leave it in the cigar for a few minutes it opes it up better. I guess the leaves kida spread out around the shaft better. RJT

RJT... THANKS for the input!!!
And it makes perfect sense, especially for those "moist & oily" sticks that need to be "set free."
I still have the orignal sets that Henry made up for me... I clean the shafts, occasionally, with an alcohol swab... And I wouldn't give them up for anything!

STICKMAN,
Henry's Original Sets and the Special Edition Sets are functionally identical. BOTH are capable of saving some tight or plugged cigars, and intended to pay for themselves over use.
The SE sets are distintive ONLY in that they have premium oak handles, high-nickel shafts, are personalized with your (or your recipient's) initials.
The SE tool sets are being reserved for the holiday season. Initailing, final protective coats, and processing take a bit of time, so we're asking interested BOTLs / SOTLs to think a bit ahead, and order before the cut-off in November.

Thank you for the feedback! It's been printed, and Henry will read it when he returns home from the hospital (in about an hour). I can assure you that news of "saved" cigars is a big part of what keeps him upbeat!
Funny... Old Henry isn't the most "well-read" guy. But his common sense is remarkable!
A "Henryism": "You got a SIMPLE problem? Don't go lookin' for a COMPLEX solution!!"
Here's where we stand on reservations for Henry's Special Edition sets at the moment. Please correct me if I have overlooked anyone.

THANK YOU!!!
Henry's home. We sat and enjoyed a cigar together tonight (me, a VS Serie 55, he a Padron).
He perused some of the CS printouts, and a couple of them damn-near brought tears to his eyes:
CATFISH: The Felipe Gregorio is one that Henry loves. But he loves even more the thought of you using his tools on this fine cigar!
El JEFFE: Henry's response speaks for itself: "This guy likes cigars, and he knows how to treat'em!"
The old bastard will likely be back in his Work Shed tomorrow at the "regular time" (5:30 a.m.). We'll likely hit the lake by 7:30 to grab some late-season panfish.
FWIW... Yes, Henry is a nasty old bastard. But sometimes, just sometimes, within the "nastiest" people lurks a heart-of-gold. We bekueve Henry to be such an individual.

A little story on this subject that will amuse you
I live in Jupiter florida and one day caught a Sail Fish it was about 60 or 70 pounds....I decided to take it home and have it smoked so I could make some smoked fish dip.....I got it home and called my freind who had a smoker...he told me sure I'll smoke it for you...I said ok and that I would even give him half of it for smoking it for me...about a week later he calls me and says hay man I got the fish smoked and have your half ready to pick up....well things got busy for me and I didnt have a chance to pick it up right away..so I called him back about a week later and said I was coming over to get my half.....he informed me that he was sorry but he had eaten my half but had some crappie for me to take home...i was totaly pissed and said are you kidding me?..what the heck is crappie?...I give you sail fish and you give me CRAPPIE?.......I go to his house and he hands me a large plastic bag full to the top with these beautifull white filets that I never seen or heard of before....I take them home and fried them up and they were the best white fish I had ever eaten....I called him back and said anytime you want to make that trade again let me know...:r

Henry's out on the lake again today. It's unusually warm here, so he's taking full advantage of the late-season fishing!

SCOTTIE,
I stand corrected! (see list below). The embossing process takes Henry a considerable amount of time, so we're limiting the initialing to three characters. When he's ready to emboss, we will alert you, confirm the order, and confirm embossing via PM or conventional email
We're ANXIOUS to post photos of the finished tools before confirming ANY orders... Henry's kind of "touchy" about the photos unless/until the tools have met his expectations. We respect his judgement.

A little user tip. I had an H upmann PC with a tight draw tonight. I found that if you insert the tool and then just leave it in the cigar for a few minutes it opes it up better. I guess the leaves kida spread out around the shaft better. RJT
That always worked for me. Never thought about using the technique on cigars though. :D
Just curious since I'm already signed up... How much are these anyway. :r

KLUGS,
Henry's "Originals" are still $6.75 plus $2.00 S & H (via USPS First Class Mail). The "Special Editions" will be about $19.75 plus $4.05 S & H (via USPS Priority Mail).
We've included your name on the "reservation" list (below). This is in NO WAY a "binding" purchase agreement. We're simply trying to line up interested CS members, allow Henry some time for embossments, and allow some time for proper curing of the handle finishes, packaging, and shipping well before the holidays.
Hope the weather is better in your neck of the woods than it's been here! JEEZ! Snow squalls in October don't bode well!!

My brother in law, who lives in Florida, called me last night and our conversation always includes cigars. He mentioned his dismay over having had a plugged cigar and he tried his best to fix it... but to no avail.
Throughout the conversation, I was smiling to myself and thinking...'soon bro your problems will be gone'. I'll be visiting him during the Christmas holiday and one of the sets I'm purchasing...is for him. :)

BLAKE,
Glad to hear it, and way to go!!!
Be SURE to show him how to use the tools, with emaphasis on "letting the tool do the work!" TWIST the tool gently to allow the chisel-tip to create a draw channel... TURN the cigar as you go, to be sure your tool shaft is not wandering off-center... BACK OFF, and RESUME the plunge if necessary.
Hope you guys enjoy enough sticks over the holidays so that your Bro-In-Law becomes a pro at it!

STICK,
We've (finally) come up with a solution to offering both Henry's "Originals" and the "Special Editions" via direct-pay (via ******) through conventional email. This will make "on-demand" orders possible, by credit card, checking, or whatever. More on that SOON.
About Henry's Originals?
They work! Nothing much has changed, except that we'll be offering the handles in four "flavors": Maple (Henry's favorite), Walnut (a deeper shade), Cherry (if you like the reddish tones), Ebony (a sort of "piano" finish that reveals the grain, yet the shininess of the darkness is intriguing). In each case, COUNT on reliable tools!
A photo and info spread will be available viaPM/email within a week.
About Henry's Special Editions?
PHEW!!!
He's been finishing and cutting tool handles for over a week, now. Each and every character in a set of intials is hand-embossed with a set of old character-dies and his brass hammer... A "tick" this way, and a "tick" that way, until he's satisfied that they can be properly highlighted and top-coated.
Henry's Specials aren't a work of art... They're a work of love in memory of his wife. The handles show all of the flaws, failures, successes and triumphs we find in life.
Another "Henryism":
"If you're afraid to swing the hammer, the nail ain't going nowhere!!"

The Tool Sets are COMING!!!
Henry was pretty-much (make that ROYALLY!) pissed off about having to "fast" last night and this morning before what the doctors call a "routine procedure."
Anything other than a cigar with a shot of bourbon in the evening or bacon & eggs in the morning is definitely NOT "routine" for Henry!!
FUNNY... He gets out of the hospital ("slammer," as he calls it)...
He whittles-up some wood shavings, fires up the warming stove in his work shed, and he's happy.
LARGE things make SMALL people happy.

Dave,
Apologies for the delay! "Buzz" and "Marc" were packaged tonight, and will be on their way to you tomorrow morning.
Henry and I have kind of a "standing battle" over how many protective coats he lays over the handle embossments. I figure that two coats are plenty. He figures that it takes three coats (and thus three days of curing time) to make sets that will last for 5-10 years.
As I've said before.... I don't argue with Henry.

The certificate signed by Henry is very cool and a nice touch.
Thanks again to Henry, Steve and Cindi for a job well done. I'll do business with you guys again in a heartbeat.

DOC,
Thanks for the note! As I mentioned to you, each and every tool is cosmetically different... As it SHOULD be with hand-crafted items of any sort.
However, Henry insists that the PERFORMANCE of his cigar sets is consistent. If it isn't, send them back, and we'll make them right, at our cost.
There's something special and good about standing behind an old fart who stands behind his principles. PERIOD.

Guys,
Our intention is NOT to create some sort of "controversy" on this forum. Henry has enjoyed particiating (though by the printouts I give him), I have enjoyed sharing news from his work shed. If this violates CS convention, then Henry and I will conform to conventions we need to conform to.
We just enjoy sharing the tools, swapping the stories, and being a par of the CS Community.

Henry's not a "trusting" sort of guy with most folks. But he's come to trust the judgement of CS folks, as they've helped him to make the tools better. This has taken time, and MANY posts that I've printed and taken down to his place. And through that, he's come to sense a "trust" in the CS family.

About Bruisedawg, and Henry, and "Junker"...
BOB... Your gift was totally uncalled for, though I can tell you that it lifted Henry's spirits (no pun untended) even further than they've been over the past few months!
I stopped down at his place a couple of hours ago... Stacked about a half-cord of wood behind his work shed. He came out looking a bit embarrassed, and said, "Are the guys at 'The Club' pissed off at me!?" He's two days late on delivering the next batch of SE tools, due mostly to his stubborness on applying and curing top-coats.
I handed him the package... He opened it... And said, "Doctor Daniel's Health Tonic! WOW! Is THIS from one of the Club guys!!??"
We walked back to the house, lit a couple of cigars, and enjoyed the time. Junker sat enjoying it as well!
About "Junker?"
Well, he's a sort of "Hound-Lab" mix.
About eight years ago, Henry was driving his '66 down the road, about 1/4 mile from us, where a guy had one of those "If you get it - You keep it" junk yards. Nobody was around, and the dog was tangled in a mess of chains around his neck, legs, and abdomen. He was crying.
Henry stopped... Took a pair of side-cutters out of his trunk... Walked into the property... Cut the chains... Led the dog to his car... Took him out for a ride (probably the first EVER in the dog's life... And named him "Junker."
Junker has never left Henry's side since.

There IS honor among honorable men.
CASE-IN-POINT: "Moosie" (Eric) received a set of Henry's Special Editions, and we neglected to invoice and collect prior to sending the set out.
We received an email from Eric, asking how we wished to be paid for his set of Henry's.
Moosie could have easilly "cut-and-run" with his set of Henry's. But he DIDN'T. He did the honorable thing, and that's what makes CS an honorable place.
I called Henry and mentioned it to him.
He yawned, and said (quite bluntly), "Eric's got his tool set... He'll be saving some cigars... If he doesn't, we'll buy them back... PERIOD!!"
Ahh well... Here's where we are the the Special Editions... It looks like the first week in December before we can fulfill, but Henry is undaunted in his effort to make up good tools!

Whats Henry look like? I dont know about anyone else but all this reference to Henry and nobody knows anything about him. I think it would be nice to put a face with a name.

FANATIC,
I'll work on this, but can't guarantee anything at this point.
The last "photo" I saw of Henry was one taken of he and his wife. It sits, framed, on the bureau chest. He glances at it often. I don't ask him about it... And he doesn't tell me about it.
YES... I've mentioned to Henry that we should take a photo and do a sort of "photo-story" about the tool sets.
His answer so far??
"Don't get into my shit, and I won't get into yours... My tools speak for themselves... Do yours!?"
What can I say, man? That's "just Henry!"

YES... We're a bit "behind" on the "production schedule" for Henry's Special Edition sets. Yet he's confident that we can fulfill all 50 reservations, and have them delivered in plenty of time before the Christmas holidays.
Henry bullshits me a lot, particularly about the size of the fish he catches. But there's ONE THING Henry doesn't bullshit about... And that's coming through on a promise.
FUNNY... I called Henry tonight. Hew was pissed about the Ohio State vs. Michigan game, yet elated that Jimmy took the Nextell championship. I'm quite certain that he'll find something to be pissed off about tomorrow.
ANYWAY.... Here's where we're standing on Henry's 2006 Special Edition sets. Vacancies (unclaimed) will unboubtedly appear here and there... And we will fill them if & when we're asked to via PM.

Mine arrived Saturday and I could not be happier. Tell Henry that the craftsmanship is exceptional and I am proud to own something that he created. I hope that all 3 of you (you, Cindi and Henry) all have a great Thanksgiving holiday. And when I sit back with my cigar after dinner I will be thankful to call Henry, you and Cindi friend.

Thanks, Scottie!
We're kind of looking forward to some ham, black-eye gravy and corn bread! And, of course, a nice cigar!!!
I don't "push" Henry on the tool sets. He makes up each set as though he were making it for himself. And he takes LARGE pride in knowing that he's able to help others to "Treat Their Cigars Right!"
Here's where we are with Henry's Special Editions as of tonight. He's obviously got his work cut out for him, and I'll be heading down to help him with the "grunt work" on Wednesday night.

I stopped by Henry's place late this afternoon... Got out of the truck, and the "tink--tink" of his brass hammer took me out to the work shed.
He's peering through his jeweler's glasses and finishing off another tool handle embossment. "Shut the door and sit down," he barks. "Got one more letter to strike!"
I hand him a sheet with more initials... It's 4 sets for DaKlugs. He looks at it, looks at me, and says, "Shit! This Dave guy has more initials than I have in my alphabet!!!"
He switched off the light. We went back to his place. He broke out his (current) favorite, a Partegas Black... I broke out a "Slow Aged" that's been resting for awhile.
He says, "You better not be bullshitting me about these 'Stogie Club' guys! Seems like they got good sense, and seems like they're using the tools... But you better not be bullshitting me!"
That's just "Henry."
Between working on DaKlugs' "alphabet" and coming up to show Cindi how to make Black-Eye Gravy, he'll be a rather busy old bastard over the next day!
A very HAPPY and SAFE Thanksgiving to all of you!

Thanks, man!
I guess I'd have to defer to guys like WOLFAN on performance issues. He knows that the tools require practice and patience to master.
Henry's tool sets are NOT for everyone! They are NOT "automatic."
He realizes this, and says quite simply, "If you don't like what I sold you, I'll buy it back... PERIOD!!"

PHEW!!!
The ham, biscuits, gravy, pumpkin pie, bourbon, and cigars left me flatulent, but contented!
I called Henry this morning. He felt the same "human failings."
"When my farts smell worse than my dog's farts, I must'a had a good time!" he said.
Ahh well. That's Henry.

Steve,
I got mine in the mail today! These tools are sweet! Tell Henry I said "thanks".
Billy
Thanks Billy!
We'll hope to hear from you on "cigar saves" with the tools!
It's an unseasonably warm day here in Lakeville. The overnight crust of ice on the lake yielded to brilliant morning sunshine and a touch of light breeze from the Southeast.
I stopped down at Henry's place about an hour ago, expecting to pick up a few finished sets of the tools. His work shed was locked. I stepped onto the porch, and there was his tacky "Gone Fishin'" sign hanging over the door. Scotch-taped to the sign was a note:
"Steve -- Please let Junker out to take a crap. I gave him some ham and gravy last night, and his bowels don't hold as well as they used to. Thanks! PS -- Feel like some pan-fried tonight??"
I get pissed off about a lot of stuff that goes on around me. But I never find myself pissed off at Henry. He's taught me about patience and quality-of-life. He also whips up some kick-ass fried fish!
'Nuff said.

SOMETIMES, an empty stringer is better than a full one.
Henry came back without a single cookable fish. But he came back with a ferocious appetite. Fortunately, Cindi plunked a bunch of vegatables, leftover ham & bones in a pot. The Post-Thanksgiving "soup-stew," accompanied by crusty bread, was nothing short of magnificent!
We will fart proudly tonight!

"Trust" is kind of a funny word.
I trust my wife, and have faith that she trusts me.
Henry trusts his dog, and has faith that I'll let Junker out to crap while he's out fishing.
Henry is late on the next batch of "Special Edition" sets. The handles are curing through the second coat, and will be getting a third coat prior to shipping.
I "trust" that you will have a bit of patience on delivery of your "SE" sets. If not, I "trust" that you will be pleased to get your money back.
As Henry would say, "PERIOD!!!"

It's about time for another update on where we stand with the 2006 Special Edition sets! We're not moving as quickly as we'd hoped, due largely to the fact that Henry is applying and curing additional top-coats.
The update appears below. Those sets noted as "Finished" are awaiting Certificates of Authenticity, packaging, shipping and (in a few cases) payment. Those listed as "In-process" are just that. Those listed as "Pending" are sets for which we have not received permission to invoice, nor necessary info back. Those without any notations are sets on which we have not yet contacted CS members for information to proceed.
To all those who've ordered and are awaiting your tool sets, THANKS for your patience!

The "SIGNING PROCESS"...
As those of you who've received sets of Henry's 2006 "Special Editions" know, they come with a "Ciertificate of Issue," signed by Henry.
What you may NOT know is the the agony I go through in getting the bastard to sign-off on the tools!
I was down at his place tonight. He sat at his desk, puffing an RyJ Reserve Maduro. I presented him with the first certificate, along with documentation of WHO ordered, and the handle embossment.
"Who the hell is this Da Klugs guy?" he asks. "Is he a jackass, or has he been around for awhile!?
"He's been around longer than I have, Henry," I said. "And he likely knows a lot more about cigars than either you or I do!"
"Bullshit!" he says, then signs the certificate.
"What about this guy "JAG," he asks... "Is he from around here?"
"Not sure, Henry... But I'm pretty sure he's in the States..."
"What's the deal with Ron? He really screwed me up between his tool handles and a guy named Kelly or Krandle or something!"
"Not sure, Henry... But we'll work it out."
This is how it goes with the "signing" process. And it is quite painful for the messenger (me).
Anyway... Henry's Cigar Tools are NOT "perfect." They are the product of an old gentleman's caring for taking cre of cigars "properly."
PS -- I asked him what he wanted for Christmas (knowing that cigars would be on his list).
"Give me a better nurse with a great ass, who knows how to light a cigar!!!"
Ahh well... Onward & Forward!!!!

THANK YOU to those who've received, and offered feedback on Henry's tool sets!
The feedback buouys him him beyond what you might expect.
It appears that "Junker" (Henry's dog) got into some sort of thing with a Coyote the day before yesterday. Junk came home with some serious lacerations (treated promptly with liberal dosses of petting and small dosses of left-overs)
"Junker" rests comfortably now, with an un-deserved pillow in an un-deserved bed.
AHH Well... Onward & Forward!

The last few laps are always the most exciting!
Henry has been through "mid-race" on the 2006 Special Editions, though not without a pit-stall or two along the way. He'll be picking up the last of the 2006 SE orders this week, and promises that he'll deliver for what he calls "all good little boys and girls" before Christmas.
Henry is a bastard.
But he makes a pretty good cigar tool.

THE HOME STRETCH...
Over the next few days, I'll be contacting those who have remaining reservations for Henry's 2006 Special Edition tool sets, and also those who've not yet claimed those that have been crafted for them.
The reservation list will be updated. Unclaimed orders will show on the list, and claims for vacated reservations will be honored on a "first-come, first-served" basis.
2006 Special Edition sets are limited to 50. Henry has spent a great deal of time creating the SE sets, and (very frankly) he's ready for a break. When the last handle embossment has been done, Cindi and I are going to "confiscate" his embossment tools and store them until October, 2007.
Thanks to all who've ordered Henry's tools... And special thanks to those who've written back with news of good results!!!

Buy a Star... or Save a Cigar???
Henry rode with me this morning to pick up enough oak stick to finish off the 2006 Special Edition sets. My radio was playing, and there was a spot on for the "International Star Registry" (you've probably heard the same blurb at one time or another). Anyway... It's a gift offer to "name a star" after some significant other. In return, you receive a "certificate" to verify the star name.
Henry was fascinated!
"Okay... So for the price of a box of Panza's, I buy a star," he says. "Now I gotta' FIND that star. This guy sells telescopes, huh!?"

Got my classic tool set last week. Already saved two sticks with too tight draws, although one I had put back in the humi to fix once I got the tools in... Thanks a lot for a wonderful product at an unbelievable price. I would have paid 3 or 4 times what you charged and considered it money well spent.

MALIK,
THANKS for the note! It was printed, and I'm certain that Henry will appreciate reading it tonight!
As you can see by the tool quality, and understand by the instruction sheet, Henry's not in this for the money. He's into it, lacking a better term, for the "brotherhood." He takes IMMENSE pleasure in knowing that his tool sets are adding to the pleasure of those who use them.
I WISH I could say that Henry will be around forever, but I can't.
I WISH I could say that his cigar tools will be around forever, but I can't.
SURE... Somebody will likely copy the tools, patent them, and make some money. But here's the way Henry figures it (sic):
"When I'm gone, I'm gone... But someday, some guy's 'gonna set down with his son, pull out a couple of cigars, use my tools, and tell'im 'these tools were made for me by Henry, and someday they'll be yours'"
PERIOD.

Talked with Henry again briefly tonight....
As usual, most of the conversation was about the cigar tools, and how they can be used properly, and how I might improve the instructions.
And, as usual, his response was rather abrupt:
"Some folks 'get it," and other folks don't... PERIOD!!!"
Ahh well... maybe it's time for a Party Short!!!!

And we've all seen the written "clauses" that apply.
There are legal "clauses" and there are Santa Clauses.
Henry is something of a Santa Claus.
He MEANS what he SAYS.
If, for ANY REASON, you are dissatisfied with his tool sets, he will buy them back, including return postage... "PERIOD"
The work shed has been a busy place! He struck four of the "RTL" handles before accepting two of them... The "GH" handles turned out alright, though I suspect that he'll strike another handle, "just to be sure."
Sometimes (as you know) I get kind of pissed-off at Henry. Though most-times (as you know), I trust in his judgement.
"PERIOD"

Lenguamor,
PM me, and I'll send you all the info you need. We handle the sales of ALL Henry's tools via regular email, simply because we don't feel it's appropriate to "muck up" CS with a bunch of marketing & sales stuff.
There are plenty of Henry's "Classic" sets available.

Dave,
Glad to hear the sets arrived safely, and sorry for the "re-do" on one of them!
Man, if you're to the point where you can take on a Lonsdale with Henry's tools (I've said it before), you've MASTERED them! My suggestion for a good "starter stick" is a White Owl Blunt (pineapple, grape... it doesn't matter)! Then again.... There ARE the Cremosas!!!

AND... HENRY'S COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH!!!
Thank Goodness!!! I mean, he's been driving me nuts these past several days!!! And the day when his 2006 Special Edition run is finished will be a day of great celebration, from our perspective!
Silly as it sounds, Henry kind of fancies himself as "The Santa Claus of Cigar Tools" with these SE sets... And he takes it VERY seriously! I mean, here's an old guy who prefers retiring at 9:00 - 9:30 calling me up at 11:00 with questions about this set or that, double-checking intials and names, and on and on!
Ahh well... I reserved several boxes of nicely-aged cigars in a seperate coolerdor for Henry a few months ago. And we're looking forward to presenting those cigars, along with selected libations, to Henry on Christmas Night.
Thanks to ALL who've reserved and ordered Henry's SE sets... Here's where we stand as of tonight:

SIMPLIFIED,
GLAD that Dave laid a set of Henry's on you!
Neither Henry nor I "wish" you a tight cigar! The pure and simple intent of your tool set is to "correct" what you feel is "incorrect"!
Dave has given you a gift that we hope you'll use for your lifetime!

It's closing on 11:30 p.m. here in Lakeville, and the weather is wet and cold (though, thankfully, no snow yet!).
I drove down to Henry's place about an hour ago. The house was dark, but the work shed was lit, and plumes of smoke were billowing from the warming stove. As I'm walking up to the shed door, the sounds of Christmas music (one of those 24-hour X-mas stations) was blaring inside.
I walk in. The heat is SWELTERING!! Cigar tools are sitting on the curing racks left and right. Henry, in a pair of overalls and a T-shirt, turns around, smiles, and says, "I think we're going to make it in time for Christmas!"
We talked a bit... He looked around at the remaining SE sets... Leaned back on his work stool, and said, "I want you to get them boys a 'practice' cigar in each of these sets... Doesn't matter what it is, so long as they got something to practice on when they get their tools."
As I've said before... I don't argue with Henry's judgement... And I can't wait until the Special Editions are all done and gone on Monday!!!!!
Ahh well... Here's where we are tonight:

Well... For those of you who received Henry's 2006 Special Edition Tool Sets, about all I can say is that you've got examples of American craftsmanship that will NEVER be repeated.
The toll on Henry was just too much. The handle embossments were brutal. For example, he embossed a total of 100 finished handles. But he also kept a can of "rejects" that never went out, totalling 74 handles.
Sure, he'll come up with another limited edition on one sort or another. But I can assure you that they'll not be hand-embossed handles!
I found it interesting to track WHERE most of the Special Order tools were shipped. Pennsylvania was the hands-down winner, followed closely by Wisconsin. A few sets found homes in Florida, California, Arizona, and other places. But I was ASTOUNDED by how many dedicated cigar-smokers there were in those two states!
Anyway... This will be my last "status report" on Henry's 2006 Special Edition Tools. Those that are listed as "Pending" are simply those for which the transactions have not been completed, or those for which we have not confirmed shipping addresses. I will handle those individually via PM or email.
Again... THANKS to ALL of you who ordered the SE sets!

#2: Just let Henry and I know how they're working for you.
As I've said before... Henry's Cigar Tools are NOT the product of his hair-brained schemes. They're the product of his hair-brained schemes PLUS the product of the hair-brained ideas of Club Stogie members!

GUIT-MAN,
You're getting to a "point" here (no pun intended).
When Henry made up my first set of tools, I thought, "Cool!... I might use them now and then!"
These days, I'd feel "bare-naked" without a set on-hand. I keep a set in my humidor, another in my "traveldor," and another in the console in my vehicle.
NOPE! I'm not trying to sell more tools! (Goodness knows Henry needs a break!)...
Just trying to continue the "philosophy" that Henry aspouses:
"I'm gonna' educate you on how to treat a cigar right!"

I got back from Scottsdale AZ the other day and I find the box of Henry's tools sitting there. I had forgot about them with the x-mass craziness and what a great surprise it was. I know these will come in handy for those aggravating times of plugged cigars so I thank Henry and you for all your hard work and caring.

Came home from the Christmas holiday and Hnery's Tools were waiting for me. They look great ... much better than the bamboo skewer that I had been using.
Haven't had a plugged cigar since I've been home. I'll give you a review as soon as I try it out.
Hope all of you in the Tool Shed have a Happy New Year!
