hello. new forum user here, but i've been using top25cigar for a little while. i never noticed they had a forum, i just went straight to the review database.

i'm in my low 30s, live in the midwest, work for the military as a govt contractor, do a lot of traveling, was in the army for 6 yrs... married (2nd and last time), 3 yr old son, 15 yr old step-son (anyone wanna buy him?).

i love motorcycles, notice that some of you all do as well by your avatars. i've had my picture taken with kevin schwantz, frankie chili, nicky hayden, while at Laguna Seca in '99. don't currenly own one anymore, see the paragraph above this one as why. i'm a huge football fan, and feel i'm fairly good at fantasy football, been doing that for a long while now as well.

cigars, been smoking them for over a year, was a pipe man before (still smoke pipes when it's too damn cold out - like now). my first cigar was a macanudo maduro that my boss gave me while in germany. the last cigar i had a few days back was a BBF i brought back a week ago from germany.

i'm here to learn about cigars, obviously... where are good sources that don't have a high frequency of confiscation, how to take care of my cigars, how to do the little things while smoking them that will enhance the experience (i just read last night about purging, but i never thought about holding a flame while doing it).

yes, some of you may notice my name from another forum. i've been over there for a short while as well. it stands for Im-Ho-Tep, i was a huge classic horror movie fan.

thanks for having me, sorry my intro wasn't too snappy, battling the cold everyone in the states has (i thought i would miss it after being in germany for a month - nope, my family had it waiting for me when i got home).

Welcome aboard!

I rode some with Nick Ienatch (never could spell Nicks' last name) and Lance Holtz, the original editors of Sport Rider Magazine. I remember later Lance telling me about this great young rider Nicky Hayden who had just started riding for an AMA team he was managing. I think Nicky was about 16 at the time. Laguna Seca is an awesome track!

Greetings from another newbie! There seem to be a bunch of friendly people around here. I haven't seen any snobbish behavior like I have seen at some other boards...

6 yrs in the army, eh? Did you spend all your time in Germany? I wanted so bably to go there (for the beer!!) but Uncle Sam wouldn't cooperate. I spent the majority of my 4 yr enlistment at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii with the 25th ID.

one90proof, schoefield huh?? i just had a TDY there in Oct. i've been there about 6 times.

no, my duty stations were ft. leavenworth, then to CMTC (hohenfels, germany - which is where i'm headed here in jan), then back to ft. leavenworth..

i love germany, it's awesome, but has changed a lot since the early 90's. so many bases are closed/closing. actually, all the talk here is that since the russians built all those training areas in Poland, then the wall fell, they've just been sitting there... and now the germans are getting funky with the SOFA, making it impossible for civilians to get jobs and hold an ID card... so, looks like the army is moving out of germany in a few years (except a couple training areas - grafenwhoer, where i was just at in dec; and hohenfels, where i'm headed and use to be stationed). one of the many retired officers i work with is going to be the head guy at one of the polish training areas ran by civilian contractors.

when were you at schoefield?

btw - the german beer is the best in the world. no brew pub/micro brew in american can hold a candle to it. everything is done the way it should be over there... what's funny is going from germany to korea... total polar opposites. nothing makes sense in korea, it's all backwards.

okie2, hope this photo shows up.

i'll delete the link after you say you've looked at it. not a big fan of putting my crappy webpage out there... it's just for my family to look at most of the time. (yes, i know some photos don't show up, that site is funny, won't let me load some types of jpgs.)

and thanks to the rest of you for the nice welcome.

IHT, I was at Schofield from Apr or May '97 through Jun '00 when I started terminal leave. Great place - Hawaii, not Schofield...I enjoyed the North Shore waves during winter and hiking the mountains. Oahu is really beautiful, cept for the sprawl of the city.

I have heard at least a dozen others tell me the same thing about the quality of German beer vs what we have in the States. One day I hope to vacation to Germany to see for myself!

I did not know we were pulling the majority of our troops from the there but I can see how there might need to be a shift of resources due to changing political climates throughout the world.

Thinking of the Army reminded me of something. I bought a t-shirt before leaving Oahu that mocked the soldier's creed. You may or may not have seen this before but I still get a kick out of it...

Short Timer’s Creed

I am an American Short Timer. I serve in the forces for which I so foolishly volunteered. I am prepared to leave at any time so designated by the Department of Defense.

I will never extend or reenlist of my own free will. I will make every effort to resist the lies of the reenlistment NCO. I will accept neither choice of duty station nor reenlistment bonus.

If I should become a victim of involuntary extension, I will keep faith with my fellow Short Timers. If I am the Shortest I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those shorter than I and back them in every possible way.

Should I become the subject of a reenlistment interview, I am bound to give only my name, rank, and date of separation. When questioned I will make no oral or written statements which may be instrumental in the reenlistment of a Short Timer.

I will never forget that I am an American Short Timer, responsible for my actions and dedicated the principles which have made carefree, happy civilians of thousands of Short Timers before me. I will trust in God, my discharge, and the civilian way of life.

dude, i went to hawaii a few times when you were there.

as for the short timers creed, hilarious...
but i must say that if it wasn't for the army, i don't know where i'd be. i had some real bad NCOs that didn't know what their job was or how to HELP a young troop rather than hinder their developement.

as for the army moving back: they almost closed fort riley, but now they're moving one division back in the very near future (can't remember which one). yep, pretty soon i won't be going to germany anymore, it'll be poland, which i hear is kinda nice as well. but nothing beats german beer.
