If they're those Africanized bees....you got some BIG problems on the horizon.

Never had a problem with insects. Smoke seems to keep them at bay.

I always figured that my cigars kept the bees away. I know it works with people a lot of the time. :-)

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Apr-18-02 AT 09:54 PM (CDT)]Go to htp://www.insectclopedia.com and see if you can identify the pest in question. Sounds like instead of bees, you're dealing with hornets, which people often mistake for bees. If there are an inordinate number of these around, a nest is probably nigh. Find it and attack at dusk with insecticide. Hornets eat almost anything, including meat. Thus they're attracted to us. Bees, on the other hand, are after only pollen and necter, and thus really have no interest in us at all. Hope this helps. Good luck.

New guy here......thanks to Big Vito.

Those sound like yellow-jackets and they seem to be attracted to my cigar smoke too when fishing on a certain pond. Mosquitos don't seem to mind second-hand smoke either?

do they hover in one spot right next to you?
if so they are sweat bees and will bug the crap out of you
but they don't sting. otherwise if you are drinking something even beer those stupid yellowjackets will be attracted to you. good luck

One word for you. RAID (as in Wasp and Hornet Spray). Been known to kill small dogs, cats, pigs, cattle, ugly mother-in-laws. Works exceptionally well on wasps and hornets. Kills them sooooo fast, they often freeze dead on their nests. Surely a product that the EPA must be finding a way to ban, works too good!

NO Palmetto bugs are totally different that cockroaches. cockroaches are the black flying things that eat your trash and scraps when they fall on the floor. my house is now clean as a whistle in fear of them! palmetto bugs hang out outside under rotting logs and in palmetto palms which is where they get their name. try knocking down one of those trees every now and then youll see them everywhere!

Hmmm...I think I dated their sister at one time.

Actually, I've found the same thing, that certain cigars seem to attract bees. On the other hand, the mosquitos aren't around as much, so it's a trade-off. Unless you're allergic to bees.

I don't know about bees but we always have lots of misquitos around here, unless it's there's a breeze, or until I light my little bbq tiki torch that I got from walmart that I filled with off brand misquito replent fluid.

Smoke is supposed to calm bees like when beekeepers spray them with that bottle. Maybe they got addicted.

In my area the big bug problem is a thousand cicadas hanging off of every tree.
