WOW..is all i could say about this movie, walked out of the theater with my jaw to the floor.
Keeps you mesmerised throughout the whole thing.
It's supposed to be the 12 hours before Jesus's crucifiction.
Veeeeerrrrry graphic.
No wonder there was so much controversy.

Been there, done that, bought the tshirt and burned it!
That said, it's typical mel. It's an action movie about jesus. I found most of the characters flat- Judas and Mary were the best.
What did anyone else think?

I would have to also say WOW, saw it yesterday going back today to watch it again.
To say its typical Mel? Its an action movie about Jesus? How else can you accurately portray the horror that he went through at the end of his life in any other way. I think Mel did an outstanding job.
One of the things I had yet to hear mentioned was that the entire movie is subtitled since they are speaking in Hebrew the whole time. At first I was annoyed by this, but now I thinks its one of the best choices Mel made. It really forces you to be more visually tied into the movie, and with very little spoken word in the movie, what is said has more impact.
The one thing I can say for sure though is it is no way shape or form a movie a child under about 16 should see. There was a lady in the theater with me that brought two kids under the age of around 12 and very promptly left the theater. The older lady next to me I dont think saw the last half of the movie from sobbing and hiding her eyes.
If you werent clear on what Christ went through prior to his crusification this really shows how horrible it was. To those who think its too much too violent, remember these were the times were people were stoned to death, what they show is far less horrific graphically than the beating.

They're supposed to be speaking Aramaic and Latin.
You're right about the graphic violence. Hey, it got an R rating. Don't parents pay attention to that stuff? Although, I read in our local paper that some churches are recommending it, despite the gore.

This move was just Awe Inspiring. I left with a feeling of WOW. I just don't know how to explain it. It was so moving that My Lady and my Aunt were sobbing for most of the move. The devil was really freeky. and the end with the rain drop WOW!!!!!

This production would be difficult to understand if you were not coming from a position of faith in Christ. I could not picture making any sense of the brutality Jesus suffered without realizing why he went through this agonizing death.
My wife and I will be watching the Passion this evening to help get us in the zone for Easter. I think its such a great film that really helps one understand and feel the sacrifice that Christ made for us, as well as the powerful significance of the resurection. The first time I walked out of the cinema I just felt incredibly thankful to Jesus.
Happy Easter everyone!

When you are new to a faith I know it helps you understand the whole easter story. It hit me hard. You realize even more how much he went through for our sins. It was a little lack luster acting wise, more documentryesk, but still very good. And if you are catholic Ill bet you cant make it through the eucherist with out thinking about it. I plan to watch it every year around easter.

I would have to respectfully disagree (or would it be agree?)
If the other characters were flat I would say that it was intentional or at least a good thing. I thought it was great that it was not dealing with a whole bunch of separate dramas... of which many were going on, but instead it was just focused on the sacrifice
It was ALL about Jesus... whole movie to be centered on his incredible act of love and sacrifice. I guess I can see why you would say "action" movie but I think that depends on your attitude more than anything else's. I saw it as he (Mel) was presenting the part of the gospel everyone else leaves alone, especially visually!!!
He did it willingly, knowing well ahead that it was his destiney.... somebody had to pay the price of our sins... he did it for me and you. (whether you believe or not!) :)

:tpd: Very moving movie. Brought tears to my eyes. Made me really appreciate what he did for me. Highly recommend it. A+++. Thought it was really awesome that Mel Gibson did this movie with $$$ out of his own pocket. Lot a movie production companies turned him down. Bet they wish they hadn't now. Here are some statistics: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/passion_of_the_christ/numbers.php

I thought the part where Jesus urged John off the booby trapped pot with a 1.2.3 JUMP following by a ripping explosion was a little over the top. But at least we left knowing how the nickname for a toilet got started.
/Mel style!
